Waxing Anyone??
« on: August 21, 2012, 10:44:46 AM »
Hello fellas and forgive me if this topic has been addressed I am new here and at work so I don't have a lot of time to look around. I was wondering if anyone has tried to wax their head, I am African American and get terrible bumps when I use a razor so I have been using Magic Shave for years, a co-worker suggested trying to wax it and then of course volunteered to do the waxing free of charge...It made me wonder if this is something to consider, I am no friend of pain but would be willing to endure if it gave me a couple week pass on the process, by the way looked into laser but that isn't in my budget....Thanks fellas and I wish I knew such a site existed years ago!!

I wouldn't go the waxing route....could cause discolorations in your scalp.....As far as the razor bumps go here are some things I invested in....Shave Secret (sold at WalMart), a shaving brush, and some Bump Patrol. Another mistake that people make is not washing their heads with an exfoliant (St. Ives Apricot Scrub is most recommended). Other tricks that I have tried to prevent bumps and have been pretty successful is rubbing my scalp with an ice cube immediately after shaving, and Witch Hazel which is sold at most drugstores. Check out some of the other threads and you will find many tips on shaving and preventing bumps. Good Luck, Brother!

If you use an exfoliant, go with it every other day or so.

Thanks guys, will definitely look into a few things especially since they are available locally, I'd love to whip the razor out and get busy, besides Magic Shave stinks horribly and smells the house up so the wife knows I'm clean shaven before she even sees me, kinda kills the thrill factor ;D

Beedo... I just saw that you're in York, Pa.. I'm just on the other side of Gettysburg. We're damn near neighbors!

The guys have already give you very useful advices.

If a razor causes you problems (even if only sometimes), then the waxing will get you into more troubles.
Just as a thought: waxing is a more intrusive technique than shaving so waxing will produce more irritation than shaving.

Welcome Beedo. This subject has been addressed in another thread with multiple posts in the headshaving section, I believe.
I strongly agree with the advice from sirharry, and suggest you try another method. I think the waxing thing is a bit extreme, but that's just my opinion.

Maybe try the products by Bump Patrol, they're specially made for guys who tend to get ingrown hairs.
Be sure to prep the scalp, and then soothe and moisturize after you shave.
Good luck!  O0

It's best to leave waxing to the ladies. They are a lot tougher than us guys.

Have you tried dry shaving with a facial trimmer?

Try shaving with the grain that could be why you break out after shaving.
