Hello Everyone

I just joined the site and made a post on another thread so I'd thought i'd post it here too.
I'm looking forward and excited to join this site. I don't have an avitar as I haven't shaved my head...yet.
Hello Everyone,
I've been reading these boards for while to build up the courage to get rid of my hair piece and shave my head. I'm 40 and have been wearing it for 20 years (my whole adult life). When I got the hair piece, it gave my lots of confidence and I rarely thought about it. Over last 5 years I've been constantly thinking about and it's seems to be controlling my life. My wife agrees that I should shave it and I would feel better without it. I'm going to take 2 weeks off work and shave it on the 27th of August. As the date nears I'm getting more nervous about it. I keeping thinking how bad I'm going to look without it. It's hard to explain, I know people know i have one and I know at times it doesn't look good but I feel I somehow protected by it because I feel I'll look worse without it.
I'm thinking of postponing it because my insecurities without it and having those old feelings about my hair loss from 20 years ago resurfacing.
What I hate the most is that there is now in between. I'm going to go from a full head of hair to nothing, a horse shoe around my head.

Welcome, Irish6! It seems bizarre, but you're like the fourth or fifth guy in the last several weeks to join this forum that happens to be the same age as me! Getting back to topic, going from a full head of "hair" to nothing can be a drastic change, but it doesn't have to be the end of the world! You aren't the first guy to admit to facing MPB before you can legally drink, but we have seen younger and younger guys elect to go sly rather than fight a battle against MPB that they're going to lose anyway. Even if you don't go sly immediately, getting rid of the system and going with a short buzz would be a start! At least you now know that hair systems are nothing but expensive lies. As far as what people think, most people should be too busy with their own lives than to worry about what's on another guy's head. Good luck and keep us posted!

Welcome Irish, you've come to the right place. I suggest you ditch the hair hat, rug or whatever you want to call it. Buzz any remaining hair down as close as possible, and shave it off. I'm telling you the freedom you will feel is amazing, I guarantee it. Many have been in the same place as you and will attest to the feeling. Good luck.

Your wife is on board? What are you waiting for? Free yourself from the rug! I guarantee you won't look "bad". I came out bald several years ago and this site gave me the strength to do it.

Irish6, you can do it man. Don't let the negative thoughts creep up and stop you. It will be so liberating once you become sly.

Hi there, welcome to the site, it really is helpful.
Your story sounds very similar to my own. It's coming up to 12months since I made the decision.
I uhmmed and ahhed about it for months, finally setting myself a date. Right up until I was sat in the salon chair I wasn't sure if I would go ahead with it. But I did.
PM me if you want any advice.
Good luck!

Go for the shave Irish. Dont worry about looking bad because you wont. I mean seriously look at these guys, now pick out the ones that look bad shaved. not a very long list is it? In fact I wounldnt be surprised if your paper is still blank. So grab that razor and find out for yourself that you dont have what it takes to make the list either.
