Gillette Gold Fat Handle Tech Double Edge Safety Razor - 1940's is this a good razor for my first DE?And if so what would you pay for it.I found it on ebay and don't knoa if its worth it.
That's a really nice DE razor. It would be great for your first DE shave.
From abit of research about $30 - $40, seems like a decent razor.
Thanks guys I unfortunately missed the Bid,we spent 7hrs at the ER for my Daughter she was in severe stomach pain. Blood work,IV,Meds to relieve the pain and sent home with a prescription and told to follow up with her Dr.She seems to be doing better still have no idea what it was I was pretty sure it was the Appendicitis due to the location and severity.Anyway I am going to start looking for a DE again on eBay cant find any in the stores nothing over $30.00 for my first one not sure how i will like it now,I did however just purchase a Vintage Avon Iron Horse Train Shaving Mug just like my Dad used off eBay I sure would like to no where that one went along with his many DE Razors that he had. I remember watching him as kid now I want to start that Tradition again with my Grandson that I am raising who is now only three and when he gets older pass on my razors to him.If it was not for this forum I would have never remembered those special and close times that we talked in the bathroom while I watched him shave and now I will give that to my Grandson.Thank You.
Here is the Shaving Mug
That's a great plan Tom. Hope this finds your daughter well.
@justtom...I hope your daughter is better.

Hi Justtom: The Gillette Fat Handle Tech is an excellent DE razor for any newbie or beginner or veteran shaver. It is probably one of my favorite vintage razors. It is considered a mild and effective razor. If you can get a good to near mint condition for $30 and under go for it. I have the gold-plated one. The nickel-plated Techs have longer lasting finishes (coatings). The gold-plated Techs lose their coatings more. With that said....it is still a classic, beautiful razor that performs well. Here is my Gillette Tech.

That is a very pretty Gillette and pre-butterfly and still going strong...them old razors were tougher than a pine knots.
What do you like better, a Clamshell or a TTO.
Hmmmm, looks somewhat like the razor I "inherited" from my grandfather who passed in '79. I actually got the razor a couple weeks ago from my mother who had it stashed away and heard my frustration in trying to find something to try. I was wondering what it was, all I know is it says Gillette on it. I'll have to look at it again when I get home. Definitely not the gold finish...... at least not anymore, but does look quite similiar.
