Which is the best anti-virus program?

What brand of anti-virus protection are you using? Is it good?
I have used Norton AV for many years and recently it allowed a virus to invade my kingdom...I ran 2 of their clean-up programs and did all of the things they told me to do w/o success and finally I downloaded a program from Kaspersky and it terminated the virus with extreme prejudice. So I need another AV because I think I'm getting divorced from Norton, muy pronto.
Would like to hear opinions from y'all.

We use Norton Anti-virus in the office. And it comes with a copy that you can use at home as well. But it's a hog on processing time and if you have an older computer it's just a BAD idea.
We used to recommend AVG for personal computers, but then noticed that they were not right on top of things all the time and missing some outbreaks.
Now we recommend Microsoft Security Essentials for the personal computer at home. Office still uses Norton.
I personally use Linux on almost all of my computers. That's a pretty good anti-virus in itself. They just don't write much virus software that attacks linux systems, and even if they did, the security model on linux makes it much more difficult to cause major damage to your system. There are some advantages to not using the mainstream operating system.

Thank you, Zed...I have a friend that swears by Microsoft Security Essentials...I read some good reviews about, Bitdefender. Good cleaner and good support. Thanx again.

Microsoft Security Essentials here too. Haven't had any issues.
Had Norton a few years ago ... getting it uninstalled was a major challenge. Never again.

4 points for Vipre 2012 and 5 points for Avira (stay away from AVG ,avg is not good he behaves more like a virus than anti virus -that's wrong same on you AVG
) !

none! they all suck, big time. they all are outdated, every day houndred of viruses pop up from nowhere, and the anti-viruses does not recognize them. not to mention that they really make your cpu run high.

Paul -you are speaking the truth they are garbage all , but if man WANT to use them then I think (and i am only a pale amateur
) that Avira has the lightest footsteps and AVG is in fact a virus ...

not at all. a real virus will go through three anti-viruses at one time, guaranteed. it's been proven that. I'd rather use my pc at its best, than slow it down by using an anti-virus. never had viruses problems, btw.
