Can't stop getting frustrated with being Sly!

If you look at the picture in my avatar, I look nice and smooth, clean shaven (except for that damn shadow that we just can't seem to get rid of ...
)
But, I find myself unable to get that level of smoothness these days. Tried all different razors like Fusion Proglide, Shick Hydro 5, HeadBlade Sport, regular disposable... I haven't shaved my head in 2 days and I'm a daily shaver - been debating on trying the bald fade again but I'm receding pretty bad on top...
I just don't know what to do anymore!

Some days the result is better than others. I find that since adding the following to my routine, I get a far smoother shave.
Preshave scrub (BaldGuyz)
Shave oil
Shaving soap, applied with a brush
Ice cube rub post-shave.
I shave with a HB and then do a second pass with a Mach 3.
Just remember, it may not feel smooth to you, but to everyone else you have a cueball.
Just my two cents' worth...

I appreciate that, balddoc.
I just wish I could find a great routine that I could do the same every day! It just hasn't been coming out very smooth lately...

Remember that no matter how smooth you get it, it will only last a few hours before it starts getting sandpapery again. So don't obsessed over it too much. As. Balddoc said, to the rest of the world, you have a cueball.

I can't explain it, but I've noticed there are definitely cycles to it - whether it is how quickly it grows (does it feel stubbly before noon or not until after 5 p.m.) and how close the morning shave is immediately when I'm finished.
But as Balddoc pointed out - it always appears exactly the same to everyone else.
Frustrating? Yes. But don't let it overtake your mental state.
You look great regardless!

I appreciate the feedback, I guess it's more when I look up-close in the mirror I see the top of my head kinda...I can't explain it... it's like dry almost is what it looks like, not smooth or "clean" looking... like I feel it used to be.
I did take one piece of out of my shaving routine and that was using cortizone cream after witch hazel and before the aftershave nivea balm. Perhaps that is why my shave is different?

Try exfoliating that dead skin. Skip the cortisone - longterm use will lead to thin skin and telangiectasia (tiny red bloodvessels, reminiscent of an alcoholic's nose).

I usually use HB ClearHead every other shave

Try exfoliating with St. Ives Apricot Scrub. Often I will shave with the grain, then use the St. Ives., then shave against the grain. WHOA!!

BaldJJ,
I think you look amazing. I expecially like the beard with the shaved head. My thought, I shower shave I think the hot water on the dome helps with the smooth shave. I shave my head last. I use Head Slick mentholated and it works great for me and a Mach III razor. Hope this helps. Keep it sly, it does really look great!

I like to go with the grain for me I am a sink shaver and trying the shower shaving which I find to be a lot quicker for me no need to over due the whole shaving thing and become obsessed with having a chrome dome wash your dome or scrub your scalp will help out with the shave and after the shave.

@BaldJJ
Some good advice given here. It’s always refreshing to know that we have the good doc in the house, especially when we are all dishing out advice. Thanks Balddoc, I always learn from your input.
I don’t mean to labour this point, but if all else fails, try shaving your dome with the "Wet Shaving" method and a Double Edge Razor, with a good blade, like the Astra SP. I have never got a smoother shave out of anything else I have tried.
It takes a little longer, but the shave is perhaps so close because one is so meticulous while using a DE.
It is all just trial and error...
