Certainly giving me something to aim for!

I've never really rated big beards before but let mine get slightly longer for the xmas and now I'm gonna continue. Here's then to now. Not much of a change but big for me!

Guys who break through the "comfort zone" of being barely bearded with a dusting of stubble usually seem to find themselves discovering what you have discovered: real beards are awesome.  Just make sure you avoid the temptations of doing something stupid with the beard "I'm going to shave it to look like a lightning bolt!" and when it gets too long for your liking DON'T SHAVE IT BACK DOWN TO STUBBLE.  A lot of guys completely miss the point that a beard is made from hair and can literally be maintained at whatever length you want.  i.e. if you like it at 2" and reach 3" then cut it back to 2" instead of a 1/512".
You don't know me, but I know you.

Actually, my wife isn't a fan & I talked her into letting me see in the new year with it. Now we've both compromised & I'm going to have it trimmed & neatened up.
To be honest I used to shave with  straight razor & I really enjoyed it so I'm fairly open to the idea of shaving daily again some time soon. But I do love the beard. This is the dilemma I face! :)

DANGER! DANGER!
I am afraid that you are compromising your beard to a woman who has been programmed to hate beards because of their being distinctly male characteristics and therefore offensive to the matriarchy.  I fear for this beard because when men and women compromise this is how it works:

Heh, I remember that sequence. "Klingon Opera" is now a synonym for "compromise by capitulation".

I watched that show live as it aired and never really caught it in reruns so I must have seen that scene when it first aired back in, what, 1993 or 1994?  It is so deeply true that it stuck with me, and every once in a while I would search for it on YouTube with no luck.  I finally found it about a year ago and post it whenever the need arises.

I was going through the history looking at some posts that I had posted when I found that this guy:

Haven't been on this forum in months. Decided not to show my face til I had something to contribute.

Rocking that outstanding beard wrote this back in January:

Rusty. Your beard rocks. I don't think I have the ability to get it that long but dammit I'm gonna try!

Aside from my advantage of a head start, what the hell does my beard have that yours doesn't? That beard is fantastic! :D
Raulski's post proves a theory of mine that most guys are disappointed with their beards because of bad thoughts in their heads and bad trimming techniques almost all guys seem to adopt (i.e. edging their neckline halfway up their heads)  That beard rocks and if you do anything more than a simple trim job to even things out then you are nuts!

Just let it grow and put aside the bad trimming concepts you have in your head and you'll be surprised at how the problems with your beard often have more to do with sabotage from the person on which the beard grows than it does genetics.
