I've only been bald by choice for 3 days but have to say I'm loving having the beard / bald head combo. In fact I think I would feel more naked without my beard which I have had for 20 odd years in various forms than the feeling I had when I first shaved my head.

Funny that, I would be exactly the same!

To all my bearded brothers, thanks for the inspiration. I started a goat about three weeks ago. So far I haven't touched it. My goal--one year. I've never had one for longer than a month. I get fustrated with the patchiness and give up. Hope all of you will give me support in this endeavor. Also started working out at the gym with a personal trainer. I'm trying to bulk up. I'm tired of the tube shaped body with no strenth. The beard is coming in faster than in the past. The trainer said it was the protein supplements he suggested.
So wish me luck.
Good luck! Focus on the first 30 and then the next...posting progress pics in this thread and the sbg bearded pioneers are sure to help keep you motivated. Take it from me!

<---- Two weeks of growth.
Keep going 0mm. Another 2-6 weeks. Don't loose your nerve. Just keep growing.
Meanwhile, I've come across my office nickname... "Beardy". How original.

Mr. Jules, your new nickname, "Beardy" is proof that growing a beard throws them off from your baldness. They could call you "baldy", but the beard is taking prominence.

@mr Jules: that is what I plan to do. Keep growing it into a thick beard to complement my shaved head.

0mm, expect to be on growing the beard for another 2-3 months. Seems a long way off but you will be rewarded. I did not touch my beard at all for the first month. Then went to the barbers for shape and trim. Then grew some more. Overall, took about 6 months to acheive this.
Enjoy the experience.

Know what you mean, Slymyke. Bearded is trumping bald.
Now where are you going with your own beard ? Are you growing for it ?

I just untied my goatee for the first time in 2 weeks. Sometimes I forget just how long it really is! The funny thing is that I just unleashed about 2 weeks of shed hairs and when you see how many hairs get shed in just a 2 week period of time I wonder how I even have a goatee at all!

Mr. Jules, It is about the same length right now. I will wait a little while before growing it out.
Rusty, where's the pic of the new length, bro?

Good points on the beards getting more comments than the sly dome. I seem to get frequent questions and compliments on my beard and the dome does not get noticed or mentioned.
I have also gotten several comments about looking like Brian Wilson, former pitcher for the San Fransisco Giants, as well as LSU. I attended a LSU baseball game recently and a fan in the stands asked to take a photo of me to show his friends.

Slybeard, that happened to me when I first shaved my head. I actually started a thread some time back ranting (which also proved me point, being the first few responses were compliments on the beard.) Oddly, when I shaved down to a goatee two months later, that was when everyone suddenly noticed I was bald.
