Hey, thanks! Coming from someone who has an excellent beard himself, it's a real compliment. 
I'm gonna trim down the van dyke portion a bit in the next week, and then I'm actually gong to let it all grow out through the winter, and see what happens. Not gonna worry about shaping/neckline, etc. No deadline in my mind.. just through the cold months (Nov-Mar), and if I like what I see, I may keep it going.
Of course, I'll keep up on basic maintenance (combing, washing), but that's it. Just going nuts, otherwise. I have my wife's full support, and my workplace doesn't care, so I'll see what happens!

This is just an update showing the final length of the surrounding beard.  I'm going to allow the chin to continue to lengthen, but the beard is roughly at the length of my longest clipper settings, so I figured that is a good place to stop.  As for the chin I measured a hair and it was 16" long, but the overall average length when the hair is allowed to hang without being stretched straight is about 11".

Know what you mean Red, all of these members are growing some nice beards.  Some of the look like the beards on tv the Duck Callers !  But if they had that money they wouldn't be talken to us !

Thanks everyone.  Here's a photo of it bound up with hair bands:



I can't believe how long it is until I think about how it's been nearly 2 years since I trimmed the length.  Then I wonder why it isn't longer!  The nice thing is that the longest hairs still show they are cut off on the tip which means I am not at terminal length.
