Hi Drew: Hope that you can still give your safety razor another try. It took me about a week to get comfortable with my face shaves and about a month to get comfortable with my head shaves.

I DE shaved for years. It wasn't a technique issue, it just took too long for my liking. My hair is extremely thick on both my head and face, it's also curly and grows in all sorts of different directions on my neck.
The Merkur 37C was the best most efficient one I found, with either an Astra or Feather blade. I ended up selling it along with a few others that I owned when I gave up DE shaving. Then, earlier this year I decided to buy the 37C again as a backup and they redesigned it with a milder head. I shaved with it and it didn't do a very good job. I sanitized it and sent it back to Amazon.
Called local shave shops, emailed other online shave shops and ALL of them only have the newer version. I don't really know why, I just don't want to buy a used one. If I buy used, I want it to be a vintage Gillette or something. So, bye bye Merkur! Schick Hydro 5 has been working fine.

Gotta love the Stealth! Mel, have you seen the prototype of the new slant from RazoRock? He just sent it off for finishing. Very close!

Hi Matt: No... I haven't seen the new RazoRock slant. Do you have any pics of it? If so ... kindly post them here or you can shoot me a text. Also . . . when will Joe have them on sale?

No announcement, yet. He's calling it the
RazoRock Wunderbar Slant. It's
316L stainless. He sent the "final prototype" off for finishing Thursday. He said blade tolerances were perfect.
His biggest challenge was thinning down the baseplate. Looks like he did just that.
Here's some info on 316

Last night was my 1st time using this DE blade and normally I don't like to brag on its first use
but this blade is sharp and smooth. Had a great shave. I look forward to future uses with it.

That's quite an endorsement of that blade. Where are they made?
Hi Matt: The Gillette Platinum Plus blades are made in Brazil. Yes... normally I do not like to hype a product but I just had a great shave using this blade.

I haven't posted for a while because recent surgery made it such that I can really only do neck clean-up for a while. I'm a bit bummed because I can't shave my head and can barely manage my face. I just wanted to chime in and say that I'm just lurking. I hope more will post SOTD's here so I can shave vicariously through them in the meanwhile!
If you're interested in the particulars of my surgery, here's my blog post from Wednesday:
