The Personna Lab definitely treated me better on second use today, although I stopped @ 2 passes due to some bumps on the back of my neck. First couple of small nicks with the slant because of them.
I also tried cold water today. I didn't notice much difference.
Prep:
• Hot shower
• Head & Face Wash: Oxy Maximum Action
• Cold rinse
• Pre-Shave: Shave Secret (also used lightly between passes)
• Brush: Van Der Hagen Boar Brush
• Soap: Uberlather with Van Der Hagen Shaving Soap, Liquid Glycerin Soap, and Gillette Sensitive Shave Gel
Hardware:
• Razor: Merkur 37c
• Blade: Personna Lab (Personna Blue)
Technique:
• Bowl lather
• 2 passes - WTG, XTG
Finish:
• Cold Water Rinse
• Walgreen's Brand Witch Hazel

Friday Nite, July 25, 2014 SOTD
Razor: Weber DLC w/ Graphite Black Bulldog Handle
Blade: Feather
Soap: Mike's Natural Soap: Orange, Cedarwood, Black Pepper
Brush: Simpson Duke 3
Dessert: Ice cube rub, refrigerated WH, refrigerated FINE Fresh Vetiver
I thoroughly enjoyed tonite's shave that I am going to sleep like a baby. For those who have not tried Mike's Natural Soap, I highly recommend this shave soap. It lathers easy and provides great protection and glide. The scents are invigorating.

Wow. Awesome shave today. Probably my best overall since starting with the DE. Went ATG with the slant for the first time. Also used my first Personna Red. No pressure = no razor burn, even ATG (although I did have a little irritation so there's still room for improvement). Very comfortable BBS in 4 passes.
Prep:
• Hot shower
• Head & Face Wash: Clean & Clear exfoliant
• Pre-Shave: Shave Secret (also used lightly between passes)
• Brush: Van Der Hagen Boar Brush
• Soap: Uberlather with Van Der Hagen Shaving Soap, Liquid Glycerin Soap, and Gillette Sensitive Shave Gel
Hardware:
• Razor: Merkur 37c
• Blade: Personna Red
Technique:
• Bowl lather
• 4 passes - WTG, XTG, 2 ATG
Finish:
• Warm rinse, Oxy benzoyl peroxide
• Cold rinse, witch hazel

RazoRock XXX Artisan Aftershave MilkI can't thank you gentlemen enough for recommending the 37C. This was a truly incredible shave! I had 48-hour head & face stubble, and the 37C just sang. It was very smooth and surprisingly gentle. There were places that I have always had to touch-up---namely a spot just back from the crown of my head---that were BBS after the second pass.
I also tried an alum block for the first time today. I used it in place of witch hazel. It could have been the new razor, but my skin sure felt better when it was all said and done. Since I had 2 variables, I can't say if the alum block made the difference or not.
I am really liking the RazoRock XXX croap and milk. Great classic smell in addition to being effective.
NOTE: The wooden vessel holding the razor in the pic is actually a toothpick holder that was handmade by my late great-uncle Orin who was blinded and lost some fingers by a dynamite cap when he was a teenager during WW2. He went on to become an attorney and finally a judge. He was a very special and talented man.

Why does your Feather package look different from mine. (I think I may have seen yours packaged with the ASD2). Are they the same blades?

Never mind. I should have googled first. I see the black is just a 5-pack while the yellow are 10-packs. Apparently no difference in the blades.

Pretty good shave today. Starting to get much more consistent results with the slant. I like the Personna Reds better than the Crystals though. First pass wasn't as smooth, but results were very similar from second point on. Irritation free DFS. I tried adding a drop of TTO to my post shave routine, but I think it leaves my skin a little too oily.
Prep:
• Hot shower
• Head & Face Wash: Clean & Clear exfoliant
• Pre-Shave: Shave Secret (also used lightly between passes)
• Brush: Van Der Hagen Boar Brush
• Soap: Uberlather with Van Der Hagen Shaving Soap, Liquid Glycerin Soap, and Gillette Sensitive Shave Gel
Hardware:
• Razor: Merkur 37c
• Blade: Crystal Super +
Technique:
• Bowl lather
• 3 passes - WTG, XTG, GTX
Finish:
• Warm rinse, Oxy benzoyl peroxide
• Cold rinse, witch hazel + drop of TTO

Prep: Hot shower
Pre: Shave Secret
Brush: None
Cream: None
Razor: Merkur Futur
Blade: Astra SP
Post: HeadClear
Well, for the past few days I have been doing what the folks at Shave Secret claim you can do with their product: use it as a total substitute for shave creams/soaps. You know what? It works fantastic. In the past I always used it in conjunction with a cream, but it really is true, it holds up on it's own. At least for me. I keep the dome wet right out of the shower, massage in about 9 drops of Shave Secret, give it a few seconds, pat a little more water on, and go to it. It does a great job, though it is true what they say about it gunking up your razor. Even with frequent vigorous rinsing there is still a build up on the blade. Normally I give myself 5 shaves before replacing the blade. Now I give it 2. Maybe even 1 (blades are cheap, after all. If anyone has thought about trying it this way, I say go for it. You may be surprised.

Razor: Lutz Slant Razor
Blade: Super Iridium
Soap: Mike's Natural Soap: Hungarian Lavender
Brush: TSN Semogue 2012 LE
Dessert: Ice cube rub, refrigerated WH, refrigerated Osage Rub
This was my 1st time using a vintage slant razor. It is called the Lutz razor. It has two sides of aggressiveness. One side is aggressive and one side is mild. I used the aggressive side for most of my passes and used the mild side for the touch ups.

I saw those Lutz's on ebay - almost got one but went with a fatboy adjustable G1 instead.
I might have to re-think the Lutz (unless I run across a Hoffritz super slant first....)

How does the Lutz compare with the 37C?

I've been using my old DE everyday for about 1.5 weeks now. Interesting how much different brands of blades make. So far the Astra's are the ones I like. I tame my time, about half an hour to shave. Maybe we should get together for a DE razor shave! I'm getting more comfortable with it.

It's too early to tell since that was my 1st head shave with the Lutz razor. I will keep you posted as I have a few more shaves with it. The one advantage with the Lutz slant is that it is a 3-piece razor so you can use different handles. I like heavier handles like my Weber Bulldog Handle. So, I will try it out on my next shave with the Lutz.
