Hey Mike: Glad that U had a good morning DE shave. I hope that the Astra SP will give U a better shave (next time) but this goes to show that YMMV (your mileage may vary). What one blade or product works great for one person may not work as great for the next.
Sounds like you are thoroughly enjoying your DE journey. I'm glad that you are getting rave reviews from the wifey and daughter. So... do U think Kody will be interested in DE shaving one day?

Had one of the smoothest shaves of my life today!
Warhawk was incredibly generous and shipped me a few Astra SP blades to try out and my first impression of them is that they work a bit better than the Derby blades I had used previously. It'll take a few more shaves with each to decide which one I like better, but it seems Astra is ahead in the runnings right now. Also, for the past few shaves I've gotten much better at making a thick, creamy lather. I started using less water and more cream, and the consistency of the lather has improved greatly.
Face and head sink shave:
Razor: EJ de89
Blade: Astra SP
Shaving Cream: ToBS Sandalwood (with a few drops of glycerin and Shave Secret)
Brush: Vulfix 1016 Badger
Aftershave: Cold water rinse and Osage Rub
I also don't need to touch up with the Hydro 5 anymore!

Tonight's shave:
Head (in the shower):
Razor: HeadBlade
Shave Soap : HeadSlick
Brush : Wally World Special
Face (at the sink):
Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89L
Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock
Shave soap: RazoRock XXX
Brush: Vulfix 1001
Post Shave : Nivea Cool Kick Arctic Freeze (Head & face)
This was my first shave with this Gillette blade.... and boy do I like it. I got an outstanding shave! My best shave yet. Part of the reason for that is that for the first time I shaved against the grain on my last pass. In addition, I think I'm starting to get the hang of making a good lather and getting the correct blade angle. This was only my 5th shave so I still have a long way to go before I'm "experienced".

Just had a nice, relaxing evening shave...
Face shave:
Razor: FaTip
Blade: Polsilver
Brush: Semogue 620
Soap: Mike's Natural Soap (lemongrass scent)
Head shave:
Razor: Weber DLC
Blade: Polsilver
Brush: Semogue 620
Soap: Mike's Natural Soap (lemongrass scent)
Finalized it with a cold water rinse, ice cube rub, and witch hazel. This was my 1st time using the Polsilver blade. It is a DE blade from Russia that is unfortunately out of production. You can still purchase these blades at limited shaving sites. These Russian blades provided a great shave with no tugs. It provided a smooth shave. Ahhhh...... there is nothing like an evening safety razor shave.

@ BillonBass: Glad that U are liking the Astra SP
@ Waine: Post some pic of your new DE razor. It sounds like it is Gillette Super Speed. Is it a black handle? or nickel handle? If it is a black handle than it is a 60-70s Super Speed; if it is a nickel handle than it is a 40-50s Super Speed.
@Mikekoz: Mike.... those Gillette 7'o clock blades are great also. They give some great shaves. Glad that you are also going ATG.
@Bluebriz: Brian... show that Cobra Classic when ya post on the SOTD. I never get tired of seeing that shiny chrome hybrid safety razor.
@npsbg: Show us some pics of that Merkur.
@ R o b 6: Rob... keep us posted on your DE journey. Take that plunge my friend. U are gonna love it. You got a great Merkur razor.

Yesterday evening shave (face only), in hotel on a business trip:
Razor: Merkur travel razor 985
Blade: Astra SP, what else?..
Soap: Dutch Vergulde Hand stick
Brush: Mühle Finest Badger
AS: Tüff sensitive
The little open comb razor gave a really good shave, as always.
My head has to wait a little bit, hit it in the weekend and as long as the scratches in the skin are not healed the few remaining hairs can grow..

@Warhawk - Mel, I would put pictures on here, but I'm lazy when it comes to messing around cropping the pictures to a small enough size to be uploaded here! Soon!

Warhawk, I love posting pics, but to be perfectly honest, this site, as wonderful as it is, does not have a very user friendly way of posting photos. It would be so much better if you could just load a Jpeg from your PC by clicking the "add photo" under the "Add BBC tags" in the "Post reply" section, browsing and then adding.
I'm with BlueBriz, I dont like to faff around too much when posting a pic.
No offence intended...

Hello fellow chrome domes: I am really enjoying everyone's replies and posts on each and everyone's SOTD. Keep em coming fellas.
I am still super smooth from last night's shave so I am skipping my evening ritual. I cannot wait until tomorrow night's shave.
