Hope all is well with you & your families. Yesterday's SOTD was soothing and BBS. For the past several days I have been shaving with the "Cella". After reading Mike's Cella review.... I had to pull the trigger & I am glad I did. I absolutely love the fresh, almond scent.
Razor: Weber Polished w/ Bulldog Handle
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium
Soap: Cella
Brush: Semogue 620
Dessert: Ice cube rub, refrigerated witch hazel, & refrigerated Osage Rub

Hey guys,
I got an Arko shave stick and an alum block in the mail today. Unfortunately I didn't have that great of a shave with the Arko stick, but the alum block was a nice surprise! Arko does produce a thick and slick lather rather quickly like I read about (kind of mediocre smell... honestly it smells like a toilet puck or a janitor's cart, but it dissipates quickly) and it doesn't seem to dry out fast, but I experienced a bit of blade skipping and have irritation now.
I got a solid 3-pass wet lather from the Arko, I had about 2.5 days of stubble, and a brand new blade, but I had a lot of irritation and one tiny cut. This is my first shave soap stick so I'm sure I can make a better lather with practice. I think some factors other than Arko made it a bad shave: going at a slightly rushed pace with a new blade, maybe a few wrong angles of attack with the DE, and I didn't exfoliate like I normally do. I'll also try Arko with a shave oil base next time. I won't give up on Arko just yet!
The alum block was surprisingly mild! I figured since I had such a rough shave this little alum block may burn like hellfire but it stung only slightly, way less than an alcohol based aftershave. It immediately alleviated any burning and acted as styptic for my small cut. I rubbed it on directly after a cold water rinse and towel off. You can buy blocks of this stuff cheap online. Mine was $5 but there's probably even cheaper ones.
Razor: EJ de89
Blade: Astra SP
Soap: Arko
Brush: Vulfix badger
Aftershave: Cold water, alum block, Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm

@ Switchy: Congrats on the Fatboy. That is my favorite vintage razor.
@BBCMark: Welcome back to the traditional way of shaving. I cannot imagine going back to cartridges. I know I can't. I love the traditional way of shaving.
@Bill: Nice mini review of the Arko stick. I actually have one but I cannot get past the smell so that is why I haven't used it yet. You described Arko's scent (toilet puck scent) exactly.

I've read the toilet puck comparison with Arko before, but I just don't get it. I can only assume they smell different in the US! I would say lemon candy or even ivory soap. Regardless, the Arko lather is absolutely top drawer!

So I took my Merkur Futur for it's maiden voyage. At present all I have is Astra SP blades but I can say that the Futur is a definite upgrade over the 180. In many of the reviews I read before I decided to purchase it I noticed that people said the handle was slippery if your hand was wet; so to combat this I wrapped a rubber band around the handle. My 180 wasn't giving me a consistent shave, I thought maybe it was the blades. I ordered some Feather blades and will try them out next week.
Here are a few quick shots of my new toy with the minor alteration (the rubber band) I added to it:

Thanks for posting a pic. I can see where that stem, handle, would be slippery. Good idea with the rubber band.

Thanks to a great friend and true gentleman, I was fortunate to purchase his Cobra Classic razor . It has been my daily driver until I took a break from it today & used my Weber. It is a hybrid SE (single edge) razor. IMHO... the Cobra Classic is probably the sexiest DE or SE razor on the planet. Combined with its beauty is it's great performance. It has been giving me some super incredible BBS face & dome shaves.

Day 2 of my Futur experience not bad, overall a smooth shave I did however get a couple minor nicks. But as I say, where there's a blade involved sooner or later there will be blood.
