Look in the mirror, what do you see?
« on: July 04, 2012, 03:16:21 AM »
I don’t know about anyone else here, but I find that I look at myself in the mirror more often since I went Sly 2 months ago.  When I look, I tell myself, “Waine, that looks OK, you can live with this Sly look”.  It is not a vain thing.  I don’t “love” myself any more, or any less.  Perhaps it is my way of acceptance and self confidence building.  I like what I see, I am proud of my decision, and I keep on looking...

Who else does this?  Since going Sly, can you walk past a mirror without looking?

What do you see in the mirror?  A person who still has a flash of doubt as to whether this is for you?  A more confident, self asserted individual?

Share your story here about your relationship with the mirror...Don’t be shy, I think the mirror and Sly have a close connection.

In the past 32 days since going sly I can tell you, I certainly do catch myself looking in the mirror a lot more then I used to, and admiring my new sly look. As you said Waine, I certainly don't look at myself in vain, but I certainly do enjoy the look of the new me a lot more then the old me

When I started shaving my head permanently four years ago, I looked in the mirror when I would pass one. I did this for about a month, and I guess the novelty wore off for me after that, because sly was so commonplace and I felt good about myself. I guess it varies case by case, but there is nothing wrong with admiration of something that is new to you.

Yeah Sirharry, I think that is what it still is for me, after all I have never been one to stare at the mirror in the past.

I see a 52 year old guy, average looks, great sense of humor, great Dad and Husband, a good son, dedicated American, hard worker, loyal Friend, and man that is sometimes TOO honest. I see the kind of man that I always hoped I would be.

The hair thing...... never even think about it.

I see me. And sometimes I see major eye bags and I think "Wow, someone needs his beauty sleep."

About going sly and looking in the mirror... 2 weeks ago I had the best confirmation that I had made the right decision. I went out to buy a new shirt. Back when I had hair, I avoided fitting rooms like the plague: huge mirrors and overhead lighting meant looking at my thinning hair under a microscope. But this time I had to try on some news things (I was not acquainted with the sizes of the brand) and I went into the fitting rooms, held my breath, looked into the mirror and thought: well, this isn't too bad!

I don't really like looking in mirrors, but in the final months before shaving my head it was becoming absurd how much I was obsessing about my hair, even checking myself in car windows and shop windows. Now I just know exactly what my head looks like and I have nothing to cover up anymore.

I don't really like looking in mirrors,

When you look into those mirrors, take it as an opportunity to "reflect" on the man that you are..... not what you look like. (Although mirrors are pretty handy for making sure you look put together bfore you leave the house.)

I think we all took  extra looks in the mirror in the beginning to check out the BALD DOME - - -

With me it has never stopped  - -no matter where I go  - -I always check myself out in a  mirror - -

Macy's has a mirror on almost  every post in the store - - -as I walk past them I  always check out my  shiny  bald  noggin   - -I want to see if the shine is still up there.

I don't consider myself vain, but I know I look at my reflection more now that I'm sly.  I guess I just like to see how the bald dome looks!

When I 1st went sly 2.5 years ago & looked in a mirror I thought " man that looks better ! Why didn't I do this 10 years ago ? " Now I see I ginked up old muscle-head very very slowly getting back in shape after a thorocotomy 6 months ago 👍😄

I only look in the store windows to see my reflection while in town.
When at home,  I only look once/day, when I shave. no need to look on and on, I k know that my hair isn't in a bad position or so :)

I look in the mirror to see if my shine is there and reflection on my dome is there and if my shave is right also the gear i'm wearing when my head is on que embracing my baldness is natural for don't mind if the girls have a look at the chrome dome.

Yeah, I look in the mirror more now than I did when I had hair but it's becoming less and less frequent as I become more accustomed to being sly.
Hair is over rated.

Perhaps many of us look in the mirror more often than when we were not Sly, as being bald is SO FRIGGIN AWESOME!
