Shaving on a college budget
« on: June 28, 2012, 06:10:58 PM »
Hi guys,
I'm 19 and about a III on the norwood scale. I've been buzzing my head on a #1 every day but I want to take the next step forward. The reason being is when I buzz my head, you can still see my receding hairline.

I still want to look attractive, but I have a low budget as a college student. So I was wondering what simple techniques/products could be used to begin shaving my head?

Much appreciated

Welcome Polishguy ... you'll get lots of information here.

Shaving doesn't have to be expensive ... unless you want to enhance your shaving routine to include multiple steps and preparations. Nothing wrong with that, it's just an option.

You can shave quite satisfactorily with your standard shave gel and blade.

Personally, I recommend the HeadBlade (see headblade.com but they are also available at CVS, Rite-Aid and other mass retailers or online at Amazon) for about $12. I really like their HeadSlick shave cream. One bottle (about $9) is going to last me about four months (I use it quite sparingly - it creates plenty of lather). The biggest expense will be blades ... The HeadBlade comes with an adapter so you can use other brands of replacement cartridges. I'm using Gillette CustomPlus3 - best price I found is was on Amazon - $1.17 per blade (order of 12). I change my blade once a week. So about $1.75 per week plus the initial cost of the razor.

YMMV and other gents will be along shortly with their comments.

Stop in over the INTRODUCTIONS and post a bit about your experience.

hi.
I, as a daily shaver, I buy a blade ( gillette blue 3 ) which is $1.2, and I change it every 10 days. that makes about $4/month.
I also buy a gel every two months and a half, that makes another $5. souds cheap to me, comparing to the money you spend on the barberstop and/or shampoos and stuffs.
you don't really need an after shave, you can simply rinse with cold water to get rid of iritation, it works for me ;)

Try a cheap Double Edge safety razor. It is not as scary as people think.  Experiment with the different blades.  You will get a brilliant, close shave once you have perfected the technique.  The blades are so cheap in comparison to cartridges, it is almost unbelleivable.

Good luck, and I hope you find a shaving regime that suits your pocket.
