Switched it up today!
« on: June 20, 2012, 12:28:21 PM »
After reading many comments on SBG I decided to try. I was using a nutrogena pre shave, headslick, and nivea post shave balm after cold rinse with the HB sport and area blades.

This morning I used the St. Ives apricot scrub and 100% witch hazel in place of the earlier mentioned, relative products.

By far, today was the best shave I've had so far feeling the end result! I loved the final product! It felt and looked completely different. I'm very happy I tried these different products! Can't wait until tomorrow... Thanks fellas!

Awesome! That's part of the fun of head shaving, experimenting with various methods to help you get that smooth shave that you want....Congrats.

Hi there Ron 223, I have read great stuff about this St Ives Apricot Scrub many times here on SBG.com.  I don't think we get it here, but if we did, I would try.  There are so many different exfoliaters, and as Sir harry mentioned, the experimentation is fun.  A pre exfoliation definitely gives a better shave.

I have never tried Witch Hazel yet as a post shave.  Lately I just splash on some aftershave and the feel I get is amazing.

I just tried St Ives apricot scrub for the first time this morning, after reading about it so many times here. I was apprehensive at first, because it's a drug store brand...
I can see why everyone likes it, though. It's way better than the scrub I was using before. Left my skin feeling awesome. Definitely buying it again when I run out!

That little tub lasts a long time. I've been using it about two months and probably have another six months remaining.

Good stuff. Many wise recommendations come from the Sly crowd here.  I'm thinking exfoliant, beer, blades, beer, aftershave, beer ... I think you see where this is going.

So you used the WH just before the cold water rinse?

I have been using the apricot scrub for the past couple of weeks, I am so glad I only got the travel size headshed... because I don't think I'll be using that again. I have been looking around for some witch hazel but haven't found some to give it a try.

I have used st ives in the past for my face when iI still had hair on my head but I have used a body scrub on my head to prep before shaving and makes a huge difference when you exfoliate plus the cold water rinse also I find if you use ice cold water it will help out with the burning or whatever irritation you have or none at all and it will cool your face down and awake you feels great on the head as well love ice water after the shave. Have not tried WH yet will have to use up my current products then try the WH and see.

Ron,

I haven't tried the apricot.. but i'm going to. Thanks for the feedback. If your looking for a good recommendation on the pre/post shave cream (i've used the neutrogena stuff below) try proraso. Check out amazon for the proraso pre/post shave cream.. has menthol and eucalyptus and is flip flopping amazing. Might even get you a better shave.

Gotta have my Witch Hazel, less alcohol so it heals w/o drying out the skin.
