Well-lubed
« on: June 12, 2012, 03:21:34 AM »
After reading some posts about "shave secret" I became curious. No such product in South Africa, so I settled on J&J baby oil with aloe vera. Thin layer before appying shaving gel. What a huge difference! Shave time faster, and NO burn (or even a tingle) when spalshing with aftershave once the dome is smooth. I'm sold.

That oil makes a huge difference. Far more than I would have expected.

I used baby oil prior to discovering Shave Secret...it did a good job, it was just a bit too greasy for my liking. However, it's a good substitute when I run out of Shave Secret and can't get to Wally World to get another bottle.

Hey there Baldoc, I found a nice shaving oil at my local Spar. It is called "Nuage" shaving oil. Packaged in a small, neat little spray tin, I think it is a good product for R42. I apply about ten squirts to my dome before lathering up with my "Perfect Shave", shave soap" with olive oil and tea tree oil from my beloved Dischem. It works fantastically on my face too. I also like using "Prep" cream as a pre shave lube sometimes.

Its all in the blade and the lube! -- hey?

Oil makes a big difference.  I used J&J baby oil at first, then tried pre-shave oil from The Art of Shaving (pricey, but works very well and leaves my scalp feeling slightly moisturized) and recently tried Kiehl's pre-shave oil (pricey too, but works even better than The Art of Shaving oil and rinses very clean).  I'll have to give Shave Secret a try to see how it compares.

I have some baby oil gel [the one with aloe and vitamin e] I use sometimes after the shave and gives my dome and nice shine with a gloss
