should i try headblade?
« on: June 07, 2012, 03:25:44 PM »
i'm almost to 30 days and i love the feel of being shaved smooth in the morning  but i am not too crazy about the razor i'm using. i currently use the proglide styler by gellete and i like it for my face but not a fan for my head. the blades do not last long at all and there is just something about the razor that i dont like for my head. so should i try headblade aswell as all the other produtcs like headshed etc. ?

I would say yes, even yessss when you say you're not that happy with the current razor. It is unique, and if you dislike it...well you will not have spent a fortune. Give the HB some time, it has a learing curve.

As much as i would say yes to the razor I would say no to the other products. You can try them, but there are many other great products out there, the razor though is unique.
From the lotions and creams which I like the most is the Headshed exfoliator

Ive been using headblade since my second shave about a month ago.  It works well but you need to get a hang of it.  I took chunks outta my dome the first three times i used it.  Even now I still finish up the sides, above and around my ears with a Fusion because its just not possible to get in there and get as close as I like.

My only advice if you try it is do it in the shower, use the hottest water u can stand on ur dome for about thirty seconds before u put any gel or cream on it.  Take long passes with the blade and don't go too fast.  And most importantly and I cant stress this enough, DO NOT PUSH DOWN ON THE BLADE.  I learned real fast to keep my index finger up and off the machinism with each pass and actually make it a point to put some pressure on the wheel with my ring finger.

Goodluck and post back with how it goes for u.

Walgreens I know for sure... Maybe even CVS.
Yes, the HB Sport isn't for everyone. I've been using it for quite some time and it does the best job for me... YMMV. If you do get one, don't let the "awkwardness" discourage you. It will take practice and patience and even trying other blades to achieve the desired results.

Cheers,
Ro

YES! I love the HB!

Go slow at first, DO NOT press down, change the blad when it gets dull.... trying to get an extra shave out of that blade will cost you.

Gotta say, the HeadBlade Sport is awesome. Just take your time and no pressure on it. The first few will take a bit of getting used to. But it is really extraordinary.

I got mine from Amazon.com; you can also check HeadBlade.com - I found some of their prices lower than anything else I could find online or in local retail shops.

I'm using the Gillette CustomPlus3 blades as replacements which was discussed extensively on another thread. Great combination.

I've not read the full thread. I'll just respond to your original post.

We're both BBC.  That means you need to shave a full head of hair daily.  That's going to take more razor blade than a guy who only shaves the horseshoe.

The headblade and first razor are only about $10 at Walgreens. Never seen them at CVS.

Occasionally they are on sale, too.  You can also use the links here in SBG and get 20% off, but you do pay shipping and that might eat up 1/2 of your discount.

I really like the headblade.   But some guys don't.  So, you'll have to give it a try. Do take it easy the first week to get used to the motion.  Keep the wheels on your head. In a few weeks you can get the head shave down to about 5 minutes with the HB. goes fast. But not at first.

I find that one blade lasts a week OK.  I also have a Schick Hydro 5 as a supplement in case there are spots that just don't want to work well with the HB.  Like around the ears or some 'dips' in my head.  But HB does the majority of the lawn mowing each day.

And coffee or tea is fun in a head blade mug. It starts discussions with the co-workers ... Oh, what's that logo on your mug.  etc.

My advice is, get the curiosity out of your system.  Buy the Headblade Sport, I think it is a marvellous little invention and I highly recommend it to any badly. Worth every cent!
All has been said here as what to do and not to do.  I recommend you watch the video which is on the Headblade website.  There are also a few cool clips on YouTube which demonstrate how to use this nifty device.  I found that very helpful to start out with.

I use Schick Ultra Plus blades which work perfectly and are one third of the price of the Headblade replacement blades.

I would not rush into buying all the other Headblade products, as there are many cheaper products which are just as effective.

I have used a HeadBlade since day one. Like the others have said, there is a slight learning curve, but if you follow the rules, it does a great job. Go get one.

I have been using a headblade sport since my first shave a few years back and I love it. The only thing I don't care for is the blades they sell tend to clog up pretty quick. I was able to try out the 4 and 6 blades they came out with which are much much better and should be available for sale soon. Even when I have used face razors like the fusion/mach types, I always use headslick to shave, nothing beats it in my opinion.

As was suggested on another topic, I put one drop of Shave Secret on the HeadBlade and that totally alleviated the "gunking up" syndrome for me.

I too would recommend Head Blade. I can't stress enough, as other s have, to not apply any pressure when shaving. let the blade do the work. It is tough to get around the ears and I usually finish with a wet/dry electric.

I too shave in the shower and take a barber's towel, soak it HOT water, wrap my dome and let the heat soften the stubble. Use a shaving brush to work up a good lather and away you go.

Good Luck and Happy Shaving!!!
