Best way to get rid of excess skin build up?

I've found that Head and shoulders helps suppress dry skin flaking off but by the end of the day there is a build up of excess skin. Being lazy I end up using my nails to scrape it off. But surely there is a better way to deal with this. I thought about getting a ped egg to take up the task but I've heard they are harsh. So what is the best way to remove the excess skin?

Exfoliators. I am a convert to St Ives Apricot Scrub.
The way I use it is shower shave, apply the scrub and scrub it for a couple of minutes. Leave it on while I complete the bathing cycle then scrub it again and rinse.

Have you seen a doctor about this, it sounds like a skin condition rather than "dry" skin?

As for going to a doctor, that sounds expensive.

Other guys do this, too. I use it afterward because scraping with the razor always leaves me with some disrupted skin surface.....not really cuts or irritation, just some roughness. The St Ives takes it away.

 This sounds like more than dry skin to me. Maybe yshould consult your Doc, or at least the chemist!

I think it's just a combination of things. I don't think it's a condition per se, I think maybe I need to start using less lotion or atleast do a better job at removing the excess. What I suspect was happening was the excess lotion was preventing the dead skin from shedding so by the end of the day I'd have a little too much dead skin caked on in a few areas.

you can ask a pharmacist when at the drug store also get a facial scrub [st. ives, noxzema, clean n clear, johnson and johnson, store brand] or a body scrub and scrub your dome with it before or after your shave axe has one so does irish spring or may order some head shed by the head blade company.

Might be my imagination but the ST Ives after shaving does seem to make a difference.

I consulted a dermatologist about this and this is what he told me, it looks like Seborrheic Dermatitis that you can read all about on  the web.. Treatment is quite simple

1. Shampoo gently with Hesd and Shoulders

2.  Apply a topical cortisone cream like cortaid sparingly, rub in thoroughly twice a day and then every so often if the rash returns.

It is a chronic condition that likes to recur.

I have a similar problem right after shaving.  Right now my routine has been Noxema Daily Facial Cleanser for pre-shave, Gilette Fusion foam for shaving, St Ives Apricot scrub, Witch Hazel, then another round of St Ives Apricot scrub. While I'm putting on the witch hazel, whatever cleaning properties it has seems to be lifting up the dead skin and that is calling for another round with the exfoliant. Gonna try the witch hazel right after shaving before exfoliating to see if it still works.

PS- I have fallen in love with the Nivea Post Shave Balm for Sensitive Skin. Wonderful smell and leaves the dome wonderfully shiny without any oily residue- feels like nothing is even there
