« on: May 16, 2012, 08:59:58 PM »
newbie here but does anyone else besides me have a little trouble shave the middle part of their head where the hair pattern swrills? I sometimes have re lather up the back part of my dome and shave over it again to get my dome nice and smooth, i have to be careful not to nick myself when doing so.

Welcome to the group! It's normal for most guys to have to reshave the back and lower sides because that's where hair is the strongest. I usually shave WTG on the entire head then ATG. After the ATG pass, I feel my scalp and depending on how long it has been since my previous shave, I lather and reshave the back and sides. However, since I started using the shaving brush, one WTG and one ATG pass is usually enough. Check out some of the threads, they offer some good tips. Good Luck!

Area with a cowlick take extra attention. Which direction is 'ATG' (against the grain). Well, all directions. The hair pattern swirls. So you have to pass over that area from all directions to get the smooth results.  As you feel your head with shave cream and a moist hand, you can feel which direction gives the MOST resistance. That's the against the grain direction.  Shave that way. Each spot may be from a different direction, thus shave accordingly.

thanks fellas I got something down pact where can get it done in one pass but sometimes a 2nd pass for it to be smooth, i like shaving wtg works well for me. i do use my hand to feel and to check to see if I got that area of my dome shaved, also my mirror i hold helps me out. i can walk around in public knowing i missed a few spots on my head.
