Bald Men's Car
« on: May 08, 2012, 08:14:26 PM »
This is a little trivia in the Philippines. Back in my younger days, there was a running joke among children that whoever sees a VW Beetle first must make a gesture of salute and flicks the ear of his/her friend and say the phrase "pendong, may kalbo". It also became a "tradition" whenever a bald man passes by.
It is not as popular today as it was back in the 80's and 90's.

In NZ, you say punchbuggy (insert colour of VW beetle here) and then punch them in the arm... that one was a bit of an oddity when I first came over from the UK, being punched because of a car... Ahhh childhood

Funny...my kids are doing this too! They punch me and each other and holler out (color) one!....We have a new rule that says if you say the wrong color, the person you hit can hit you back and say "Wrong color!"

My children were born in the 70s & 80s. They played slug bug all the time. Especially on road trips. Haha, they still do as adults and taught it to my grandchildren 😄😄

Not sure im keen on the idea of a specific car for bald guys , Maybe thats a red Ferrari Testarossa or a Porsche , or my humble Fiat . The Vw is an amazing car of its time started in the 30s in nsdap days , the peoples car .
Just got memories of my neighbours giving up with it on cold snowy days cos the beetle would not start

I grew up down the street from a shop that specialized in converting old Beetles into off-road dune-buggy kind of things. So there was plenty of punch-buggying among the kids.

Had three of  those (VW)  growing up in my late teens and twenties.  I did 200,000 miles  on one of them (had a new engine put in at 140,000 miles) - -

-I would love to have the one you have pictured.
