Hair conditioner as shaving creme
« on: May 03, 2012, 03:41:15 PM »
There have been a few threads on here about this topic.  Yesterday I used my wife's conditioner as shaving cream.  I have to be honest I thought it actually gave me a smoother shave than using Headslick or even using Headslick with Baby Oil.  Has anyone else used conditioner as a regular shaving cream long term?  Did it reduce the incidence or occurence of razor burn or bumps?  I usually get razor burn on either side of my head, just above the ears.  While Hydrocortizone does make this go away, I'd heard once that prolonged and continued use of Hydrocortizone is bad for your skin.  Thoughts?  Thanks in advance for any guidance you guys can give a newer sly guy.

I am using it now.. have for the past 4 shaves. I add a little bit of glycerin to it to make it smoother. ( glycerin is used in soap & lotion  making) I tried both by themselves. The conditioner alone gave a closer shave than the glycerin but the glycerin gave me a smoother razor glide, so l mixed the two for great results. I did this because I don't normally use any shaving cream and wanted to see a difference between a dry and wet shave.

I leave the conditioner on my head, from shampooing the face fur & conditioning it, then put my HS, with a little
glycerin on a brush and lather it up good on  top--first pass, then a second pass w/ Shave Secret, the rest of the lather in the brush, sprayed down w/ alcohol--a trick learned from the world famous Sly Guy Warhawk--and bingo--baby's butt!
