well as far back as 7th grade I can remember having a higher hairline than average, but it wasn't until highschool that I realized I was losing my hair. It's been hell, mostly do to vanity. I have my hair longer to hide my hairline, but have never had an opinion on how bad it really is.... so I was hoping maybe some of you guys could help me out and tell me what I'm dealing with here.

No offense, but the longer hair isn't hiding your receding hairline. In reality, you know that ... and so do you friends. Generally, however, they won't say anything so as not to offend you. In fact, a longer hairstyle like yours just tends to show a stark difference between a receding hairline and the longer hair. It's time to take things into your own hands and to fell comfortable and confident about yourself once and for all. Good luck with the changes.

It's been hell,
So why not go ahead and end this hell by shaving your head ?

IMHO, for a hairline like yours (and mine!) shaving the dome is best, a close buzzcut is runner up, and hair grown out long in an attempt to hide reality is a distant third. (Of course, actual combovers are the worst!)

It will not improve.
It will go ahead. Rapidly.
Amazingly rapidly.
The younger you are, the faster it comes up.
MPB is litterally EATING UP your hair.
And you.
It's time to reverse things.
It's time to shave all it off.
YOU are the boss of your body and your mind.
Not the contrary.
Shave evrything away and do it now

When you reach this level of recession, there really isn't anything that can be done to make your hair look good. That widow's peak will start to thin out and will eventually disappear and at that point you really have no choice but to shave your head or look silly.
I recommend shaving before it gets to that point. It's a hard thing to do when you can look in the mirror and still see some remnants of a hairline (even if it is a severe widow's peak). But there's really no point in hanging on to hair that doesn't look good anymore. It's only postponing the inevitable and prolonging the agony. Healing begins the moment you make that first pass with the razor across your dome.

Daltonfury, I read your post about why you decided to shave sly. It's essential reading for any guy who's going through the depressing realisation that they are loosing their hair. And how shaving sly makes a world of difference for the better.

I think that the shave is a good option for you.
