Baltimore City Police Commisioner says it's NOT a hate crime
« on: April 11, 2012, 05:24:32 AM »
A couple weeks back a group of ten black citizens in Baltimore City beat a white man, took all the belongings he had on him, and stripped him naked on a Baltimore City street. The Baltimore City POLICE COMMISIONER gave an interview to local news yesterday and stated that the crime was NOT a hate crime.
Really?
I've attached a link to a video of the beating. Watch it and decide what you think. If you think it is a hate crime, send the Baltimore City police or the Baltimore City Mayor an email demanding that this fool be fired. It doesn't matter if you're black, white or have purple spots.... what happens in this video is disgusting. We, as sane American citizens, need to protest this kind of disregard for fellow man regardless of our color, socio-economic group, or any of the other things that make us different from each other.... because in the end, we are all the same.

I grew up in Baltimore City and spent most of my first 35 years there and loved the City. Things like this are why I left long ago. I refuse to go back there and ever spend even a penny in that City if this guy isn't fired.

I don't see how anyone watching this could not see this as a hate crime. The thing that sickens me when watching it is the laughing and comments from the person filming it.
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

And.....if you check the very beginning of the vid the guy who first punches the victim got the situation going by having his hand in the victim's right front pants pocket. It sure appeared as though he was trying to rip the guy off.

Does it really matter whether it was a "hate" crime or "drunken opportunistic criminality" (increditble bit of bureaucratic flabberjab there!)-?  No.  But unless someone steps up and id's the miscreants who did it, nothing will happen.  In your place, I'd take this all to the tourist commission, and the city council and ask them why they aren't on the chief to prevent this type of behavior and bring at least a couple of the perps to court!  The chief could care less, the tourist commission has to answer to the hospitality industry and they are the ones with economic skin in the game--follow the money, get the job done.  They can pressure the Chief like no one else can.  The Chamber of Commerce also has some skin in this game.  It's sort of a game to get the most potentially impacted groups aware that people are watching and are making spending decisions based on what happens.  The industry people will push the buttons, and the pols and bureaucrats will jump.

I agree with this staement by SaintC "Does it really matter whether it was a "hate" crime or "drunken opportunistic criminality"

In my opinion, ANY crime that inflicts physical or emotional pain on another person is a hate crime.... and that's why the term "hate crime" drives me crazy.

I'm so F'in sick of all the race crap in this country. Why do you think a lot of people can't get past race??? BECAUSE IT IS CONSTANTLY BEING USED AS A TOOL TO FURTHER THE AGENDAS OF SOME PEOPLE!

Did anybody really think that the "Reverunds" Sharpton and Jackson would get involved in this one? Please.

PLEASE guys.... call the Baltimore City Mayor, tell her what state you are from, and tell her that you will NEVER vacation in Baltimore or Maryland because of this.

HA! I was going to post the phone number to the Mayor in case you wanted to call but all links to her office are down! They weren't this AM. Curious................

Racism is a double edged sword, born in ignorance and hopefully dies with wisdom .any form of violence lies within the worlds of hunger and animality . Its all lower world stuff and probably a bit of cause and effect  going on as well .

I am firmly convinced that racism, to a certain extent, will never go away, unfortunately. And if anyone thinks that 10 blacks jumped 1 white guy just because they were drunk then I can let you have the Brooklyn Bridge cheap.

My parents taught me and my brother very well. My Dad went into the Army at 17 (yeah he lied) and he was grouped with all types of guys from every ethnic background. He learned at a young age that a persons' ethnicity doesn't make them an a$$hole.... the way they live does.
My Dad very plainly told us when we were old enough to understand, that if we EVER used ANY racial slur against any person of ANY ethnic background.... he would personally thump us.

I can't even imagine what my life would have been like without all the friends from different ethnic backgrounds and races.

I agree with Tom... the problem of race will NEVER go away....because there are those that make a living off of it and thus want it to stay.

This sickens me all the way around...no one deserves this....If the victim/perpetrators races were reversed, Jackson and Sharpton would have been on the first plane over there....It's not the color, it's the actions and all of these guys should get punished, color be damned.
