Some basic questions
« on: April 10, 2012, 07:51:05 AM »
So how often do most of you shave your heads? Every few days? Daily? It can be a time-consuming thing - considerably longer than shaving one's face. I think I'll have to do mine in the evening, as I'm in too much of a hurry in the mornings before work to get it done (whenever I decide to do it).

Also, I'm used to shampooing my hair in the shower, but I now feel I need to do something for my scalp, and I'm not sure rubbing shampoo on it is what it needs. Should I just rub some good lotion on it or what?

Well, first let's deal with the time issue--as you learn your scalp and manuvering around with your shaving tool it will get faster a whole lot faster.  And while that's going on, if you're at all like many of us you'll get to liking it smooth, no stubble.  So for a large number it's everyday--and you will begin to look forward to that!
I shampoo the face fuzz everyday, so while that's on, I rub it into the scalp too to help soften the stubble.  After shaving I and a lot of guys wipe down with an astringent like witch hazel or hydrogen peroxide, followed by some shaving balm and sunscreen--then out to show the world!

As you become more skilled at shaving, you'll be able to do your entire dome in about five minutes.  A little bit of shampoo on the bare scalp is fine.

At first it does take a while to shave, but like anything, with practice it will go much faster.  I shave daily and it takes less than ten minutes at this point.  The daily shave is necessary because I can't stand the stubble.

I shave in the shower, so at first I wash my scalp with either HeadWash or body wash (Dove Men Care works pretty well).  Avoid using a deodorant soap on your scalp because they dry out your skin.

After shaving, rinse with cold water to close the pores and apply a mild astringent.  I've been using Nivea Sensitive Skin Shaving Balm which is alcohol-free.

Agreed. Reckon shaving my head in the morning adds about 10 mins to my morning routine. Time well spent.

I shave it every morning.
I do not use any sampoo for my head.

I shave every morning and sometimes in the evening if I have somewhere important to go. I use shampoo on my head and a couple of times a week I also use an apricot scrub. After the shave I use witch hazel and aloe vera or lotion followed by some all important sunscreen as I spend quite a bit of time outdoors as part of my job. Total time for this is about 10 - 15 minutes.

Shave every morinng after a shower. Wash the dome w/Nivea, lather up w/HeadSlick, and go to work w/the HeadBlade Sport....about 10 more minutes added to the morning routine but well spent!  8)

Cheers,
Ro

Almost daily.

I like St. Ives Apricot Scrub in the shower after I shave. Nivea makes some nice after shave balms that I like too (for after the shower!).

I also shave every morning in the shower.  The guys are right, once you get used to it it takes not time at all, my time is about 4 minutes.  I have a fogless mirror in the shower, which makes shaving alot easier.  I wash my head with body soap, no need for shampoo.  You look great by the way.

In my case, because of breakouts, every three to five days....though with the help of this forum I hope to get it down to every other day....razor shaving is on hiatus for another week and a half due to stitches but when I start again, my goal is every other day...
