Giving it a try.
« on: March 27, 2012, 07:47:10 PM »
Hi guys. First I just want to say that this forum has really helped me a lot. I am 26 and have been dealing with a receding hairline for about 5 years. This was causing confidence and self-esteem issues and as the years went on it only got worse. I have just been living in the past thinking about all the good times I had when I wasn't balding. Trying to figure out ways to hide it  :px. I was getting to the point where I was becoming more anxious and anti-social than usual. I wasn't going out anymore and I was getting depressed about my balding head.

About 6 months ago I found your forum - bought a pair of clippers and went to town. For the last 3 months or so I have been using the blade of the clippers on my head no guard. It has taken some getting used to but I am starting to get my confidence back. I am ready to get the razor out. Any advice/support for a balding shy guy would be appreciated. Thanks guys!

Don't be a shy guy, be a SLY guy! Just be gentle the first few times, the shave may not be as close but your scalp will thank you. And get a good lather!

If you have an electric razor that you use on your face do your head with that.

It'll be gentle and give you a close shave until you feel comfortable enough to use a blade.

Trust me, you will never look back at your life and say "I wish I had spent more time obsessing over my hair".

Just do it and get on with living your real life.

I'm glad we could help you. You helped yourself in most of the cases, though

Take it easy the first few days of shaving your head.  The skin will be a bit more tender than after you get used to is.  Don't aim for super smooth the first few days.  Your scalp will toughen up and then you can have the super smooth head shave.

Once you experience this, you won't want to go back to hair.

Once you have shaved your head clean, you hair worries are over.

Good advice elsewhere on this thread. Be careful at first. For it won't be long before you love your new look, get a good routine going and your scalp toughens up.

Well I did it. I didn't get as close as I wanted but I figure that will come with time. Found out I have a lot of moles on my head haha. When is the next time I should shave? In a couple of days?

When I started out, I shaved my head daily. Right from the start.  In a few days, I was getting the hang of it and it got smoother. The shave got faster, and the skin on my head got a bit tougher, so I felt less likely to nick anything.

Have a friend with some moles on top.  He's thinking of having the Dr. remove them.  Pretty easy to do. Not that expensive. Makes it easier to shave and not nick yourself. But you don't have to do that right away, just be careful in those areas.
