• At lunch the other day, there was an co-worker at the next table with a shaved head and full beard.  We employ 2000+ people, so I had never run into him before.  When I looked up from my lunch, he was checking out my dome.  We made eye contact and he gave me the nod.  I returned the nod.  Has this ever happened to you guys?  Several other guys with shaved heads have also said things like "nice haircut" or "we must go to the same barber".

  I like the response, "Mr. Z, you are tempting me to shave my head too. " (from a guy who is loosing his hair).

• Happens regularly here in Australia too.  At my gym I spoke to another man with a shaved head and we discovered we had been to opposing schools back in Tasmania when growing up.  Small world.

• The responses, "the nod," "nice haircut," etc.--that's the sly life in real time.

•  Since I went sly I notice guys with shaved heads more than before. A quick "nod" works. What more needs to be said between SLY guys.

• A couple of friends around here shave their heads as well. If I see one of them with an obvious day or two of growth I'll say something like "get a haircut ya hippie" or "if your hair gets any longer I'm gonna have to get you a set of love beads" (I don't know if "love beads" actually exist anymore. They were a common accessory among the "long hair" crowd back in the late 60s-early 70s).

• Seems like when I run into another sly guy, whether I know him or not, he'll speak to me like "What's up?" or the nod or once in a while he'll pat his head...enough said there, I know what you guys mean...There is a sly guy in my bowling league that will tease me or one of the other sly guys when we have peach fuzz by pulling out a disposable Bic

• Here in South Africa I have noticed a big increase in the number of sly men.  It seems to be very much in fashion again. (Especially among young white men, ages 18 -30) In fact it is so fashionable that hardly anyone makes any negative comments if they see a freshly shaved head anymore.
  
  I also exchange pretty much the same comments that have been mentioned on this thread.

• I'm a bit more direct. I will usually say something like, "Makes the others look hairy doesn't it?" Or, "Like your choice of hair styles". Then we both laugh. I've met some great guys that way, just the other day in the market when a guy on his lunch break was looking for Romaine and I was in pursuit of Cole Slaw fixins. He looked at my heat, grinned and noticed the difference in our heights. He said, "Hey, bro, I'll take down here if you'll take up there."
  
  It produces a friendly camaraderie that the haired don't have.
  
  For Waine-I was born in Groote Schuur and grew up in Claremnont. I recall NO shaved heads. Even when I was in the service, although we were allowed shaved heads, there was a conformity as to style. Go into your barrack, sit in the barber chair and there was no, "What'll it be today, soldier?". I can still, in my mind, walk down Newlands Road-then-ane see men in shorts but no men in skin. PJ

• When I was in we were never allowed a shaved head, (against Army regs.) but every other Saturday morning it was buzzed to the bone at one of the base barber shops.

  I know it's winter time but even though I would take extreme care re sun exposure. I'm lucky enough to go to South Africa on a quiet regular basis and sunscreen with SPF 50 is the first thing I put in the luggage.
  BTW I had some visitors from Estcourt here last week, tiny place in the middle of nowhere but still not that far from your place, isn't it?

• Some of the shaved heads i've seen look so clean and on que you can't help but look at them then nod your head like one bald guy to another
