My scalp seems to be a catch 22
« on: March 14, 2012, 09:17:09 PM »
Okay, here it goes. I started shaving my head about a year ago; shaving it to the scalp too. For at least first 6 months I'd shave it and then let the hair grow back because I was still getting used to not having any hair on my head. Well, I got used to it and I started to like it a lot actually. That's when my scalp problem started. I would shave my head every two days with a Gillette Fusion Pro Glide. Right around then I developed terrible scalp acne and my doctor said I had scalp folliculitis. So, I went on antibiotics (Doxy) for 2- 2 1/2 months and didn't shave my head at all. I just shaved it again and the bumps are still there, just not as bad.

I don't know what else to do. I've tried tons of shampoos and even tried an apple cider vinegar remedy and it just isn't really helping.

When I wash my head I have to put some lotion on my scalp because if I don't it gets super dry. The messed up part about that is when I put the lotion on my head to keep from getting a dry scalp...it makes my scalp really oily. I'm at a loss at this point.

I feel like the answer is staring me in the face but I just can't find it. I'm going to purchase an organic shampoo tomorrow morning and maybe that will help me out.

**I have a dermatologist appointment on May 1st. That's my next step at this point.**

Does anyone have any advice for me? Has anyone dealt with this before, or possibly even currently dealing with this?

hey. I've also faced some acne problems, and still do, a bit :)
I want to ask you: you have acne only on your head? is/were your face affected too?
I mean, just so we can know if the blade may cause the irritation.
BTW, welcome to SBGs

The skin on my face is normal. I mean it's not crystal clear always but it's def nothing noticeable. I do have eczema though and I'm starting to wonder if that has some sort of tie into my problem. I just can't find a happy medium for my scalp; it's either too oily or too dry.

What shampoo do you use?

I've tried all different kinds of Selsun Blue products, Head and Shoulders, Aveeno for babies, even some stuff from online called Clear Poreformance. None of it seems to help me much. I'm going to try some all natural shampoo next.

I have a widow's peak too so it's I either look like an old man at 26 or I shave it and own the bald look. So my hand is forced -I need to solve this scalp problem. Because there's no way I'm growing my hair out!

How clean are your pillows?  Pillows can get dirty very quickly.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.
