Baldies of the 70's that are NOT Yul or Telly!
« on: February 25, 2012, 08:55:52 PM »
Tonight I was flipping channels and saw a move from 1974 called "Foxy Brown".  I had never seen this movie before and happened upon it near the end of it.  But there was a scene where a woman was taken hostage and was about to be raped.  So who was the scumbag?  Of course it was a guy with a shaved head.  But because shaved head were so uncommon back then, I had to look up the movie and see who the actor was.  So I found out it was HB Haggerty.  While looking him up, I found out that there was also another baldy in the move played by Sid Haig.  So here are their pics.  Can you think of other baldies from the 60's or 70's?

Nice find, Marsh!!

Believe it or not, I remember seeing Foxy Brown on its first run in theaters.  Pam Grier was the real attraction.  That was during Hollywood's 'Blaxploitation' era.
HB (Hard Boiled) Haggerty was in demand as a heavy for a lot of low budget films back then, as was Sid Haig.

I always thought that HB Haggerty was meant to be bald more than just about any other actor.  It just seemed to go so well with his strong man type character.

You're missing out, iRock.  Some of the best movies ever made were created in the 70s.  Was a great era of film making, for sure.  I recognize Sid Haig from a couple of Rob Zombie's films.
"There he goes.  One of God's own prototypes.  A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.  Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

I think Isaac Hayes had a shaved head in the 70's....also Gordon on Sesame Street....Now if you're talking 80's my list might expand a little more...

Issac Hayes and Gordon.....I had forgotten about them!  When Sesame Street first came on, didn't Gordon have hair?  It seems to me that even back then, African-American men were more likely to be sly than white guys!

I should also add that HB Haggerty has a awesome mustache!  It really suits him and accentuates his slyness!   O0

The original Gordon had hair. Then the role was recast with a sly actor.

The original Gordon was actor Matt Robinson (father of actress Holly Robinson Peete). He gave up the role in 1972. They hired another actor for 1973, and the current Gordon (Roscoe Orman) came on in 1974. Orman, I believe, shaved his head for a movie role and just decided to keep it for the Gordon role.....two other sly guys in the 70's that come to mind are Slick Watts from the Supersonics and Mel Blount from the Steelers....
