Blue Screen of Death

Lately I have been getting a Blue Screen of Death shortly after I open up my web browser.  I have Windows XP and used to always use Internet Explorer.  Then IE started to be slow.  I followed a suggestion to use Google Chrome.  After I did that, I was going faster but started to get the BSOD.  After that,  it would quickly disappear and then Windows XP would restart.  I have run a virus scan and malware scan and found nothing.  I have also defraged my computer.  But it is doing it again!  I have even stated using IE again and it did it with that!  Any ideas?  Any suggestions?  I tried what I know, but I am not the most tech savvy person!  HELP!!!    :Xo! :Xo! @c3 :'( :-[

What happens if you use IE or Firefox?  Do you also get a BSOD?

If not, my guess is to uninstall Chrome and re-install it.

Tyler, I think I said that I did start getting BSOD when using IE.  That happened about a hour ago!

I wonder if there is something going around. I just got a BSoD about 10 minutes ago on this box. I have fried 2 other laptops in the last year, I believe both were virus related. This one here is my last computer so I hope nothing goes wrong, I would really miss you guys.

well
anti-viruses will do nothing, they all suck it big time.
try using a diffrent web browswer ( I use Opera since 2007 and I'm perfectly ok with it, never had a problem).
Also, as a last call, try re-installing your windows.

I think I will ask a techie friend from church to look at it.  I actually already did but I didn't think it would do the BSOD on IE.  But I think now is the time for action.

I use Ubuntu Linux and never get the blue screen of death.

Sometimes you just have to re-install windows from the ground up.  A techie will help you with this.

You didn't mention doing a, "Disk Scan". Sometimes it helps...I run Firefox with good luck.

You could try downloading MalWareBytes and running that. It is free and is EXCELLENT at catching malware viruses etc. I run it monthly on my computers in addition to my usual firewalls/virus catchers.

It will take a while to run... an hour or so for a full scan.... but it will catch everything.

When I had Norton as my security software stuff was always getting thru and MWB would catch it.

Also..... I recommend AVG for your security needs. Not even one bad thing has gotten thru in the almost two years I've been using it

I second running the anti virus programs. Many are VERY good and will detect viruses.

I would also recommend defragmenting your hard drive. Your techie friend will be able to help you with that if you are not familiar with it. It's under accessories and system tools.
