How long should I give the HeadBlade?

I have thought about using a shaving brush with some of those old-fashioned shaving creams that come in tubs. I'm not sure if it would be worth the price if it wouldn't give me a drastically more comfortable shave, though.

kind of tired of the electric and haev went back to the blade. will be picking up a HB Sport Friday, i'll let you know if i have any better luck lol

I started with the HeadBlade sport (the older model as the newer version is not available in Canada), Headslick and Headlube Matte and it is all I've used. (note: I had been using clippers with no guard for quite some time first).

I am very happy with all 3 products, so much so I don't dare try anything else. I get a smooth shave with little or no irritation.

In fact, I'm now very disappointed with my face shaving (Fusion - sometimes the power version and fusion gel). Lately I've been getting some irritation and it is no where as close as my head shave (and never has been).

Forgot to mention, I did try a brush with the Headslick and didn't like it. Found that the razor didn't glide as well and I didn't get as close.

The tweezerman brush is a low end badger, it's identical to the escali oneI used for about a year before springing fora good Simpson.  You can get cheaper than the tweezerman - CVS generally carries a boar bristle brush for about 5 to 7 bucks.

Soap wise for just about the best experience - though not the fanciest scent- go onto ebay and look "arko shaving stick" or similar.  You shoould be able to get a single one for under 5 bucks shipped to you.  Wiht a stick soap you don;t need a mug or bowl..you wait your face and then the end of the soap stick.  Pass it over all of your wet face,then take your wet shaving brush and build the lather directly on your face, head.  There are loads of more $$$$ soaps out there but Arko yields about the best lather there is though some guys don't care for the scent.  If you already have a shaving mug/or get one you can cut the Arko into small pieces, throw it in the mug and nuke the whole mess briefly to soften it tothe mugs shape.

However there is nothing wrongwith the Nivea you are now using - I have tender skin and used it for ages before changing to the mug/brush which works better for me.  Everyone's skin is a bit different and it's al about trial and error to find hte right combo for you.  There is no "one size fits all" in anyaspect of shaving

most 'old fashioned' (and I dont know why you think they're old fashioned) shaving creams are superior in every way to anything you can get in a can (IMO). I use either Taylors of Bond Street Sandalwood shaving cream, or Proraso shaving cream. You can get seriously cheap and inferior creams in a tub (Palmolive springs to mind), but generally speaking, the - err - old fashioned creams are better than foams and gels you get in an aerosol can.

Headblade, on the other hand, is a better tool to use on your head than a cucumber. However, only slightly better (again, IMO). For the life of me, I cant see what people see in Headblade, apart from maybe the product design, which (yet again, IMO) is nothing more than a gimmicky piece of plastic. The blades HB uses are inferior to blades you might use on (for example) a Fusion razor, and the actual design of HB ( IMO) great for men who dont want, need or desire a close shave. It'll remove the hair, but it wont do a great job, and ( IMO), anyone wanting a really close shave (and I'm talking about teflon smooth, baby's a$$ smooth) probably isnt going to be a fan of HB. Obviously, what one man considers to be smooth another might consider to be rough, but for me, HB has never done the trick.

Also, I think you said you're in Canada, and HB stuff isnt going to be anywhere near as inexpensive as it is in the US. You're not going to find HB products in a Walgreens or CVS bargain bin for example, mainly because I dont think Walgreens or CVS have any Canadian stores, so you're going to pay top-whack for an inferior product. Better you check out the bargains at Shoppers Drug Mart or Loblaws, on Fusion or Wilkinson Sword (Schick) Hydro 5.

I'm pretty sure it was Tyler I watched on YouTube, a long long time ago, shaving his head with a HB. He ran it across his head as if he was combing his (non-existent) hair, the whole shave took about 2 minutes, and the only thing that sprang to mind was 'sandpaper'. There's no way a shave like that with a HB can give a totally all-over super-smooth head shave. For that, you need either a DE razor or something like a Fusion/Mach 3/Hydro 5.

I tried a Headblade but couldn't get on with it - also got a few little cuts/nicks. I now use a Wilkinson Quattro for face and head. Blade lasts a couple of weeks. I use Nivea Sensitive Gel - spread it around with a shaving brush. I get a super smooth shave. Finish off with Aloe Vera gel. Gives a good shine - perfect.

I really don't like how my head feels after using it. I'm not putting any pressure on the blade at all and it still cut my head today. I think I would be more comfortable with a Gillette Fusion or something for my head. Should I keep trying to get used to the HeadBlade? I realize it's definitely not for everyone.

I'd recommend you try the Gillette Fusion for a while. I use it with Edge gel and then make a second pass with HeadSlick when I want a very smooth shave. I shave 3 times a week and make the second pass once or twice a week.

I do use the Headblade and do I like its ease of use. But I also find myself touching up bits of my head with a regular gillette razor before shaving my face. If I'm honest, HB is a good reliable easy to use razor, but it's not brilliant.  Not terribly impressed with their triple razor. Think you get better results with the HB+mach 3. Sticking with the HB, because I'm struggling to perfect a good routine with a regular face razor.

Though, I do like HB's shed, slick and gloss moisturiser. When the gloss goes on, you can see the shine from the other side of London.
