I have been shaving my head since 12/13/10. It has taken 16 months for my family to stop making comments about my shaved head.

The bad reactions of my family are the big trouble (and maybe the one) to go sly.

Same here

It's a shame. My girlfriend likes my hair short, but my parents hate it. The refuse to accept I have a receding hairline. So frustrating.

Cropduster 84, your girlfriend chooses to be with you. And that's what counts. No need to be frustrated about your hairline. I didn't like my grey hair. Now there's none to worry about.
I do like your glasses. Great frames. Got a similar pair for reading.

My parents hate my bald by choice look. Whenever I meet my parents I get the comment: "You would look so much better with hair"

Know what you mean.
Well next time, I'll be answering "Yes, I do look better with hair - you'll now find it on my face. "
PS ... friends are Skyping me to see how the beard looks. The word's out !

It's funny how most of the bad reactions seem to come from family. That's certainly the case with me as well. Most of the times I talk to my Mom, she can't resist bringing up the hair issue. Ever since I started going completely sly, she'd ask "Why don't you let it grow out just a little bit, I liked it better when you buzzed instead of shaved completely." LOL I don't let it get to me though, I just change the subject without paying any attention to the hair comments.

Just takes time. I can remember when I first went sly everybody hated it. Then after a couple of years I grew it back and just about everybody told me I looked better bald. Its your head!

Stepsisters and stepbrother were all cool about it. Grandma couldn't understand why I would shave it off. My dad said it looked like hell. My stepmom initially cried when I shaved my head. Funny thing it was my stepmom who first noted that I was losing my hair. My dad's hair was very thin. In fact he even tried a rug. Eventually they all accepted it, even if they did not like it. Dad is gone now. But a year and a half ago, I had surgery and quit shaving for two weeks. With not shaving, I found that my crown was bald and the top was very thin. My stepmom now totally understands why I shave my head. She no longer expresses a desire that I grow my hair back. She knows that even if I did, I would still be a bald man!
