family reaction to bald head

So just wondering if anyone feels the same way about this. It seems to bother me i get most uncomfortable about balding when seeing/being around people I knew before i was balding to face them now and being bald. Everyday people i meet i could care less it's just when I see for example relatives I haven't seen in a long time. I guess because they witness the transition. Another thing is my dad continuously comments on it. moronically thinks if i let it grow out it will fill in somehow.Only because in his day having hair was the thing to have, it defined who you were I guess. It gets to the point where I feel like punching him in the face. Being only 23 and almost full head bald it is tough. But what isn't. Let me know if you feel that same way at times. Had to get this off my chest thanks..

That self-consciousness about a shaved head in front of people who have known you with a balding head passes.  The family thing--that's typical, they think you're still their little boy and they get to dress you up.  Eventually they grow up too, it just takes longer.  But the freedom from the Bozo Ring, Toilet Seat, what have you is so worth it, so completely worth it.  Live Sly Brother.

You hit the nail on the head...hair has defined people for centuries and being BBC is what defines you now. Why not?

When I first grew a beard 45 years ago it was unusual in my workplace.  I'm now retired and at the gym about 50% of similarly aged men have beards.  When I shaved my head 7 years ago the odd person commented but now it is mainstream and my sly head defines me.  Really who cares what others think - it is what you want that is important.

Nuts, said it all! People love to criticize, give advice, poke, pick, kid, joke and bitch at others expense. But in the end it comes down to what makes you feel good and happy.

Everyone in my family was supportive, and not one person I know has ever said "you would look better with hair" or something similar. Maybe they were afraid to make negative comments because I had cancer when I starting shaving my head. Even if they did comment, it's my head. I shave it because I want to, not to please someone else. End of story.

I know this forum hasn't been talked on for awhile, but what happened to me yesterday is something I find funny, and felt like I should share. My mom (who I haven't seen in two years), just saw a picture of me from my oldest sister yesterday. Now, the last time I saw my mom, I had a full head of hair. So when she saw a picture of my new bald look, she was shocked. Then my sister showed her how bad I'm balding anyways with a picture of me unshaven for 5 days. Needless to say after my mom saw that, she said "I'm more shocked at how bad he's going bald, rather than how he's now shaves completely bald." That's probably the best reaction I've got from anyone. I mean, I did get the occasional "Cue-Ball" jokes here and there when I first started to shave, but they died down. Plus the tidal wave of compliments I received from people about the look.  Other than those, nobody seemed to mind or care.

P.S.- my mom likes my new look. Thankfully she's a Bruce Willis fan, so she approves. Haha!

Family reactions to the idea of me going sly (finally doing it next week), have been weird, at first my girlfriend refused to even acknowledge i was balding, but it's gotten so bad now she can't deny it, my hairline is higher than the Beegees voices. I knew I didn't have to worry about her too much as she openly admits she likes mr Willis too. My brothers on the other hand, were all negative, my younger brother said 'it's better to have a bit of fuzz than nothing', at which point my lady, who is now also excited, defended the sly stance. My older brother actually said I would look 'disgusting', and that hurt as we're pretty close. My parents don't bother me so much, they already moan about my tattoos all the time so it'll just be more fuel for the fire.

Well, your brothers... being an only child, I can have only imaginations about how to deal with siblings' criticism and rivalizing, so I would rather STFU than to say something silly.

Parents... oh well, they ALWAYS need to have something to moan about. For me, it is about wearing military style clothes, Steel or Bundeswehr boots, T-shirts/hoodies of my favourite metal bands... I assume they will never stop moaning about these things. Even if I am neither politically radical, nor antisocial, this is just my choice and taste for outfits, they keep moaning. I don't even wear black nail polish or exclusive gothic makeup, yet they think I look deviant, so... I assume that parents DO enjoy to have something to complain about, or something to be unsatisfied with. "You are an adult person, you should not look like a rebelling teenager!"
I suggest that you should deal with this. Your parents likeably do enjoy that they have a reason to moan (evt your tattoos :}), even if they would never be able to confess it.
