Defend our freedom to share (or why SOPA is a bad idea)
« on: January 18, 2012, 12:20:46 PM »
Politics is normally not allowed on SBG, but this is something that threatens the actual existence of SBG, so this must be said.  If you are U.S. citizen, you need to act IMMEDIATELY!  Call your congressman and tell them to vote AGAINST S.O.P.A and P.I.P.A...this video explains why!

Might just be me, but the video doesn't show.

However, it's completely idiotic. there will be 502 people getting sued a minute.

I have contacted my representatives and my senators urging them to oppose these bills (though one of them is the jerk that created one of them).

I urge everyone else to contact theirs.

Video does not show for me either. I've had a lot of these SOPA video's that dont' show from other sites and FB and Youtube that won't show. Wonder if they are being sensored?

Here's the direct link to the talk. I watched it earlier and it give a good explanation of SOPA and PIPA.

TED:SOPA & PIPA exlpained
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Do you need to be a member/subscriber of ted.com to view the video? That might be the issue. Thanks for the direct link, Doug.

I'm on Google Chrome and I can see the posted video just fine. No TED membership is necessary.

The morning news indicated that enough congressmen have withdrawn their support that the measure is dead O0.  The power of the net :x!, don't mess with it.

We have won the battle, but we have not won the war!

Here's a must read article - http://techcrunch.com/2012/01/19/sopa-scorecard-internet-lobbyists/

Oh, the battle is important, but the war won't end.  There are people who plan to make money and this is the camel's nose under the tent in their efforts to start an ASCAP style scheme to charge anyone with a website a fee.  ASCAP is a racket, and these people want another one!

I wish I could have gottn a link to an article somewhere other than Infowars. Maybe somebody else can confirm the information contained in this story from an independent source. Interesting, though, that this is the first anyone's heard of the treaty which, reportedly, has already been signed.

I've been seeing this pop up on Facebook recently.  The treaty is called ACTA.  I'll post more once I know more.
