Straight Razor your noggin?

Anyone ever or have you ever straight razored your noggin? if so what were the steps and is it hard i considered trying it

I've had a couple of straight razor shaves, but didn't do them myself. One thing: a straight razor doesn't shave as close as a multiple blade razor. One barber scraped a lot and it wasn't that smooth. Another barber was really good - light touch and pretty smooth. I think I'd practice on the beard first to get a feel for how to use a straight razor.

Just like npsbg, I don't use the straight razor myself but have my regular barber shave my head really smooth with it. Smoother than any multiple blade disposables. He knows my head really well to give that really smooth shave.
By the way, nice new avatar, I see you got rid of the goatee.

I have a straight razor that I purchased when I came home on my two weeks leave from my last deployment. I use it if I have more than three days growth. The key to using a straight razor is similar to that of a double edge. the angle is key, you can shave against the grain, but I avoid cutting over the ears with it. Straight razors, IMO give a closer shave on gel than on foam, but as with any razor, rinsing every few strokes is a must. Also, to keep it lasting longer, keep it covered (most come with a cover) or else it will rust, and I change the blade every three or four headshaves when I use it (I put the discarded blades in two small ziploc bags before throwing away to avoid the possibility of someone coming in contact with my blood/hair.

Do they by chance sell them at the PX? I haven't saw them.

and yes, the goatee was actually from last febuary, I can't sport the facial hair now :[

No, AFAIK, the PX doesn't sell them. I purchased mine at Sally's beauty Supply when I was home on two weeks leave. The handle itself costs about six bucks and comes with one free razor, and a box of 5 replacements costs six dollars. I think I may use my straight razor today....

I don't know if it's worth the trouble and expense for a good "throat slitter" razor as a personal purchase.  Then there's the issue of being able to use it properly.  Recently went to a barber to get the face fuzz trimmed and thinned and asked him if he did the straight razor shaves for bald heads.  He ran his hand over my dome and asked what I used--I use the Schick Hydro 5 right now--and said that he couldn't get it any smoother himself, but that I might enjoy the full treatment, hot towels, oils, shave and massage.  Haven't done it yet, but it's definately on my list of things to do.  But, since the professional said it wouldn't be any smoother, I'm pretty well validated on my current routine with the SH5.

Yes, and it is great - -I don't have to shave for several days - - -I do it only when we go on a cruise - - -and it cost $90.00 .
If I do it myself  - -I think I will take most of the skin off my head  - - -
