Question for Panasonic ES-LA63-s users

My Panny arrived Thursday.  I haven't had many days of using it yet but I'm not getting as close a shave as I expected (am using wet method).  How long does it usually take you to shave with the Panny each day?  I'm in the range of 4-5 minutes each day and am wondering if I'm just not giving it enough time.  Am trying to slow down the speed that I move around on my head too.  The last couple of days I've shaved first with Rayzorblade and then gone over it with the Panny...closest shaves yet so far!  I would like to master the Panny though as I've read such great reviews of it!

Other Panasonic users on SBG disagree with me on this method, but I use the Panasonic first.  Move the razor slowly against the grain.  Follow the blade with your fingertips to check for closeness.  Blade shave after your Panasonic shave for the smoothest shave ever.  That's my method!

I agree - use the Panasonic wet, then follow with a blade. You'll notice the sides get incredibly smooth with no irritation (almost like you never had hair to begin with)

I shave with my Lima Alpha63 dry most of the time,but also in the shower. I have also done it the, "Red Way" and it will make your head slick as a door knob with deer guts on it. Many say you must use an electric for a couple or three weeks to allow the hair to grow used to it. Good luck.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now.  While I do tend to get a pretty close and smooth shave, I developed a minor rash and went back to blade for a bit.

Since then, a wise poster in the other LA63 (like sex) thread advised the Anthony line of shave products,  I tried to find the pre-shave oil, but they didnt carry it at local stores.  Instead, I found a bottle of Anthony preshave electric lotion.

I just put it on after the shower, let it dry, and I get smooth as a baby's arse now with no rash thus far.

I use it both wet and dry and use Red's method to find any stubble left over that needs to be gone over again. Rarely do I use a blade on it but may give that a whirl.

Yea, many posts in the past Red told about how he shaved with his Panny and then went over it with a blade....I tried it and was amazed at the "pig snout" smoothness. You gotta like it...

Thanks for all of the replies guys!  I'm not sure that I understand the advantages of having the Panasonic if after using it one shaves with a blade.  Seems like that is suggesting that the Pansonic can't bring it down as close as a blade.  What are the advantages of using the Panasonic + blade vs. just using a blade?  I was hoping to avoid the irritation and red marks I get when using a blade by using only the Panasonic.

Using the Panasonic first cuts the stubble way down so that the blade has less to cut. That means less tugging and pulling by the blade so less irritation. The combo of the Panasonic and blade gives a smooth shave that lasts longer than just a blade in my experience.

Sorry if I wasn't clear...I use the electric most of the time alone, but when I get gussied up I use cold steel and when I smell passion in the air I use the RED method...good luck.

I was just using just the Panasonic until recently and now use the Panasonic followed by the razor.

The Panny does a really good job but it not as close as a blade.

If you are in a hurry some days the Panny will do just fine.

I too am now using both the Panasonic and the Rayzor.  I use the Panasonic for 10 minutes (use a timer) and then a few swipes with the Rayzor.  I just wet my head with hot water before using the Rayzor...nothing else.  My head is quite a bit smoother and the two steps don't really add that much time to the process.

Just ordered the Panasonic ES-LA63 from Amazon UK. Should be with me next week.

Currently using the HeadBlade with either their own blades or Gillette mach 3 blades. Been daily shaving this way for nearly three months. Not always sure my dome can take a daily pounding with HeadBlade - there can be some irritation. In any case, I don't have an electric razor, so it will be good to have different morning shaving options.

From other posts, seems like the Panasonic can be used with HeadSlick ?
Time wise, how long does shaving with the Panasonic compare with shaving with the HeadBlade ?
Any other useful stuff to know ?
