Sink or Shower Shaver?
« on: January 08, 2012, 10:44:32 PM »
Hey gang,

I have been shaving in the shower for the majority I have been headshaving, but I tried the sink this past week...and I LOVE IT! Being able to have more control at the sink is more my thing apparently. I managed to get the back of my head the smoothest I have had it in months...:D (With a Tech3 by Wilkinson Sword and a HeadSlick/Shave Secret mix)

So, are you guys sink or shower shavers?

Depends what day it is. Sometimes at the sink, sometimes in the shower.

Sink all the way....a bit to discoordinated (discombobulated, maybe?) to shave in the shower....

Shower. I'm 6'5" and even though I had my sink and vanity raised to 45", I still do better in the shower. I, too, have a shaving mirror, for the face, wash my teeth in the shower...when I step out, all that needs doing is to towel down.

And, on that front, anyone who has not discovered bath sheets has a pleasure waiting. 70" inches long and 40" wide, thick terry cloth, once you've used one, other "bath towels" seem like wash cloths.
And here's another thing I use and suggest. At your local auto parts place, you can purchase  car washing mitts which I use to soap up and wash my whole body. Easier to use than a wash cloth-you never drop it-and more exfoliating as well. They're inexpensive and, on occasion, I give them as part of a gift to other guys for birthdays, holidays, whatever. A zinc clad bucket with a mitt, good razor, foam or a shaving mug with razors and a body scrub and you've a good gift for under thirty dollars.
For your buddy to use in his shower.

Both.  I start at the sink and shave around my ears, plus about half the dome...

...then in the shower I finish it off.

Shower. I recently tried it at the sink and it just wasn't as efficient as a shower shave. Rinse was a pain as compared to not doing it at the sink. I do have a morror in the shower, but I do it mostly by feel.
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Sink.

When I had the bath remodeled, I had the vanity put at kitchen counter height and a kitchen sink put in.  I'm tall, and I was tired (and my back, too) at the thought of leaning over a low vanity for the rest of my life.  Now I can lather and shave and rinse with no bending.

At the sink I can use a hand mirror to check on the back, too, and then I finish by "feel."

Another reason is that shaving in the shower would take a lot more hot water than shaving at the sink.  Either you would keep the shower running to keep the blade clean as you shaved, or you would be turning the whole shebang on and off all the time.  Indeed, I take "navy showers," since I'd rather keep some of the money I'd otherwise spend on fuel oil, so it's on only twice: once to wet; off to lather; on to rinse, off and out.  Shaving in the shower just would not make sense this way.  I prefer brief on-offs at the sink's much more modest faucet stream for rinsing the razor.  And the bathroom's heater is finishing off drying the bod as I shave.

I usually start the shave in the sink, around my facial hair and where the beard stops at the ears.  But to me I get a better shave in the shower.  Once in awhile I will do the whole deed at the sink.  But I feel I get a better shave in the shower as I am able to soak the noggin better there!
