Hi Guys,
As my first post on this site, I was just wondering at what point you guys went from trimming to shaving? What prompted that decision? Was it strictly less and less hair coverage?
I've been doing the trimming thing for abuot 2 years now, and I'm down to "0" on the trimmer...not sure how long it will be before I start shaving.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi and I think this is a really great site...keep it up! (the site..lol)

Welcome RobbieD. I trimmed my hair down with no guard for about a year before I just went for the sly look. It wasn't anything crazy that made me make the leap. I just took notice to guys around me going totally sly and thought it would be cool to try it out. Ever since then I can't go back.

Welcome RobbieD.
Mrs. Schro had been using a #2 guard to cut my hair for a couple of years. Over the Christmas holiday 2006, I went to a #1 and got a ton of compliments on the look. Then on New Year's Day 2007, I shaved it with no guard before I went running. When I got back, the HeadBlade made its inaugural travel on the Schrodome. I haven't looked back.
My decision was mainly driven by my loss of hair. But as a side benefit, I have found my painful dandruff condition has completely gone since I've been SLY. For that reason alone, I will be SLY from here on out.

Welcome RD,
I trimmed closer and closer over a 1-2 month period before taking the final plunge. Your zero trim looks very good; it appears that you're completely shaved smooth. Do you have a lot of hair loss, or is it just the lighting that makes you look that way? Anyway, welcome.

I couldn't tell if my high hairline had moved or not. After a week and a half, I shaved it. I never knew how unhappy I was with my fine, curly hair until I cut it off.

I started trimming my hair with clippers for a year due to getting tired of playing the cover up game with my thinning hair. Then I was in Hawaii and had my dad shave my head with his Mach 3 because I had forgotten my clippers. I liked the feel and decided to use an electric when I got home. I used an electric for 2 years and then in August (when I started Sly Bald Guys) I learned of the HeadBlade and gave it a shot. I loved it!

Thanks. There's actually a layer of fuzz, the picture is just deceiving. Umm..hair loss is, I would say, at an intermediate stage of MPB. I currently don't feel the need to go to the skin, but I'm just prepping myself for that day!

You're certainly taking steps in the right direction, RD

RobbieDigital, guess I'm not of the norm here, but I went from a #5 on a monday and was Sly by friday. A one week adventure. As you will see in the different threads, once the idea gets in your head there is really no way to stop it.
Welcome to SBG!!

Welcome RobbieDigital. I did the same thing you are doing. The urge to shave just got too strong. I've been SLY since Easter and have never looked back. It also helps in the transition. Some go bold from full head of hair or a rug to SLY and others ease into it. There is no right or wrong way. Whatever works best.

Hi and welcome Rob (oh no, not another Rob on the site)!
I used no guard clippers for about three years before I started shaving... I did it because it was easy and cheaper than going to a barber to trim up the horseshoe I was sporting! I don't even really remember why I starting shaving... I think I just got tired of using the clippers once a week!

i was sitting there watching football one day. when my wife started playing with my hair (about 3 or 4 inches long at the time) and she said it is starting to thin a little. an hour later i was slick as a whistle. no progression, no delay. just went for it. and damn glad i did. welcome to sbg rd.
