Question for DE using head shavers.
« on: December 27, 2011, 04:16:23 PM »
Hello all

I recently got a DE razor for X-Mass and I have shaved my head twice with it so far. So far I have not cut my self but I am getting razor burn, especially on the sides and back of my head. I am using a Parker 96R Butterfly Open Double Edge Safety Razor and shave against the grain (I did it this way with my fusion razor as well will pretty much no razor burn)
So my question is, am I doing anything wrong and if so what?

Also I was wondering how long a blade usually last for?

Hopefully some of the DE shavers will step in on this one.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

First, make sure you are using the correct angle and short strikes, not long ones like cartridge razors. You have to learn to shave with a DE. Also, some blades are much sharper than others.  I like Feather blades but they are very sharp and I usually nick myself with them.  I like Derby blades. Not as sharp as feather but I don't typically nick myself with them. Try a website like westcoastshaving.com where you can order sample pack of blades to try out. I usually change my blade every other week. I got 100 pack of Derby blades for around $20.

I don't use the DE on my head because I was cutting myself and getting razor burn there.
