Sly rookie questions....

I shaved for the 2nd day of my first 30, so I know my head still needs to toughen up but I have some questions I hope can get anwsered. In the picture you can see that I am new to this and still need to get through the learning curve. I'm currently trying the Headblade sport and head slick. I'm not sure the headblade is the best to start with because it seems less forgiving, (thinking of switching to Fusion razor) thoughts?

Second, is the redness on the sides and back of my head due to me shaving incorrectly? Doesn't seem too major but there is some minor redness and a few nicks.

I seem to have the top of my head down, now just need some tips on the sides and back. What is the proper way to shaves these parts? Front to back? Back to front? both? another way? Please help! Thanks guys.....

Starting with the HeadBlade is a huge mistake in my opinion. I know it has a lot of fans, but I'm not one. I'd suggest a good old Mach 3 or something else that's a little less tricky to use.

I'm thinking this is where the redness and nicks are coming from, going to shave with the Fusion tomorrow before work (first day with the new sly look BTW) Any tips on the sides and back for me??

i would not recomend the headblade to a first time slyguy, i have been using it for years, and i took a hell of a divat out of the old dome twice in one shave last week[it was so bad i havent been able to shave since]. i would not use the fusion either, you can get a closer shave sticking your head out of the car w,indow and letting the jetstream do the work. go for the m5 in its many guises, or the mach 3, only downside to this baby is the price of the blades[its made by gillette]

Redness--get some hydrocortizone lotion, not creme,  with aloe at the drugstore, also get some benzoyl peroxide lotion, again not cream, and mix a small large pea size of each and rub it all over your scalp after shaving.  But first I'd also use a cotton pad soaked in hydrogen peroxide, 3% solution, as an antibacterial action.  Also, get some rubbing alcohol--91% preferably--and a small spray bottle and spray your razor after every shave to prevent the possibility of any little critters taking up residence and being transfered to the scalp. 
Also, remember there's nothing between that great dome of yours and the grime and grit of the world.  Wash often, two or three times a day with a mild antibacterial or antiacne soap.  And change the pillowcases at least once a week.  Keeping it clean will keep it clear.
The HB is a favored tool here, but personally having tried it I found better shaves with a traditional stick razor--right now I'm using the Schick Hydro 5. 
Finally a good after shave balm like Nivea Extreme Comfort and some sunscreen-never but never forget your sunscreen.

Although the Headblade is used by many here, I couldn't get used to it. I use the Shick Hydro 5 and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!! it is SO smooth and does not clog because it does not have any wires to go across the blades. It might be worth trying out, actually will be worth it. Let me know if it works for you.

I Love the HEadBlade but I would recommend starting your head shaving routine with a more traditional razor. Do that for a few months and then move to the HB if you choose.

I started with the HeadBlade (and continue to this day)...and practice makes perfect.

Actually, when I got my first one...the razor was installed backwards, so I shaved for weeks the "wrong way".

Regarding shaving the sides: they're the toughest to get smooth and easiest to irritate. Try shaving down with the grain first, then lather up again and gently go up against the grain without much pressure on the razor. That should get them smooth and irritation-free.

Thanks I will try this in the morning, I'll let you know how it works. Also trying the Shick hydro 5 instead of the headblade...
