So How Stupid Am I Gonna Look?

Well, my hairline's receding and I think I've gotta pull the trigger and buzz.  Def can't go completely sly just yet. I've always wanted to buzz my head , so I think I'm gonna do that on New Year's Day.  I've always wanted to do this, so I'm kind of excited in a way, but I've always been so afraid to do it  -- worried about my head shape/size/facial features/hairline/you name it.  So I'm super nervous, to say the least.... my question to you all is how stupid am I going to look with a buzz?  Pictures below

You will not look stupid. It will be different than what you are used to, naturally. But that's something you will get used to, and I predict it will be a considerable improvement.

What would look stupid would be, as hair loss progresses, resorting to comb-overs and other means to "hide" what cannot be hidden.

A buzz you look GREAT.  Sly, even better.

About 5 years ago, a buddy encouraged me to go with shorter hair.  (We did it together).  I went to about 1/2 inch long, buzz and the barbers.  I found that I needed a repeat about every 2-3 weeks.  Got expensive, so I bought clippers and did my own.

Started at #4 (1/2 inch).  Then tried #3. Then tried #2. Then tried #1.  Last summers no guard!  Each time it got shorter, I liked it more.  Really like the 'feel' of no guard. 

Next month I'm going to shave sly.  Pretty sure I'm going to like it.

Buzz would be appropriate--start at a #3 guide [that's what it is on a Wahl, about 3/8"] and then progress down as you're comfortable with it.  Looks like you're around a Norwood 3, so you're very smart to get a hold on this early and understand the process.  Remember, you're the 24/7 guy here, what makes you feel comfortable in your own skin (and head  ) is the right thing to do--and no one else's opinion really matters.  So enjoy the buzz--it will make your hair look more natural.  Then when and if you're ready to try the full Sly, you can.

Hey Crapola! I also think you'd look great bald. You have very nice, dark and prominent eyebrows and great beard stubble, that's IMO always a nice combo with a sly head. It would most definitely not look stupid!!!

Or you could also try the suggestion made by other members: start buzzing it to a length you feel comfortable with, keep up with that length for a couple of days/weeks and then repeat going shorter until completely sly

Buzzing down or completely shaving your head will not make you look stupid at all.  On the contrary, you'll look like a guy who's confident and in control of himself!

You're not gonna look stupid at all, dude. I'm sure you'll love it! You have a great shaped head and shaving (or buzzing short) will bring out your eyes and facail features. I think you should just jump in the water and shave it bald. You will take some time getting used to it (seeing yourself in the mirror, store windows) and reactions may very (some people will love it and wanna rub it and some will be idiots), but you will begin to love the look and feel. Go for it and give it 30 days!

Basing on your pictures, looking stupid is the least you would end up with. Your hair is thinning and you have to accept that it will not grow thicker. The buzz is a good idea to start with. When you feel comfortable enough, do what all of us do here....shave it smooth and wear bald with pride.
