I bet that was a thrill for you.
It was an amazing day for me. I played Santa last year too (sans Harley) and though I enjoyed it, I was so nervous I sweated bullets all day.
This year I didn't get asked to do it again and about two weeks ago I commented to my wife that I was a little disappointed. I figured that maybe I just wasn't the right guy for the job.
Then last Thursday I got a call from the group that puts on the event. They were in a panic because their "Santa" had canceled that morning. I quickly accepted the offer to be Santa again.
Yesterday AM my wife went to the Firehouse about an hour before me to help out. She had told the guy running the event that I was driving into town on the Harley. He told her to have me come around to the back of the building and drive in thru the double doors.
This year I was much more relaxed and comfortable and didn't sweat much at all.
I probably spoke to about 150 kids yesterday...some of them a couple times! I can't even explain the gift that those kids gave to ME yesterday. It's amazing what kids will say to Santa Claus. It's also amazing how many unselfish children are out there... a lot of adults could learn some things by spending some time with children just asking questions and really listening to their answers.
I will say that the Santa suit they give me to use is pretty sad. It's an old corduroy suit, no belt, no gloves, a really sorry set of boot covers, and the beard and hair are pretty sad. I'm looking to buy my own suit that's nice for next year. I got a lot of major props yesterday and it looks like I will be Santa for a long time in Fairfield, Pa.. Anyone that knows where I can get a nice deal on a good suit... it would be much appreciated.
