Chris Evans (Captain America actor) going bald?
« on: December 06, 2011, 12:21:13 PM »
I think it takes a lot of guts to admit this. It's cool he's doing. I hope he doesn't got for the HT... We need YOUNG mega A-List star shaving his head due to MPB. It's a sad fact, but people who don't think bald is attractive would reconsider it since an extremely attractive, young, A-list star is bald and going sly.

Anyways, while this may be old news, I think it's great to have a discussion.

Quote
He's a superhero with immense powers.

But like any man, even a superhuman, it appears Captain America has concerns about his looks.

Actor Chris Evans has revealed that he is losing his hair - and is concerned about whether his comic book character will have to follow suit.

The 29-year-old has signed up to play Captain America in three movies.
Superhuman: But Captain America could soon be needing some help in the hair department

Superhuman: But Captain America could soon be needing some help in the hair department

'The fear is this [role] can span 10 years so I can be doing this character until I'm 40,' he told E! online.

'I'm supposed to be like this superior human.

'He can't be balding... How horrible would it be if this superior man has male pattern baldness?'

The Fantastic Four actor famously bulked-up for his role as Steve Rogers, a young soldier deemed unfit for military service who volunteers for a top secret project that transforms him into a human-fighting machine.

The 6’3 actor was required to gain over 20lbs of pure muscle in order to play the action figure.

But one thing he isn't worried about is his muscular body, with near-daily gym visits.

'That I can control,' he said. 'If I miss three or four days, I feel like s****.'

Good for him!

Never have seen the series, but as for the 'actor," anyone who can say, "'I'm supposed to be like this superior human. He can't be balding... How horrible would it be if this superior man has male pattern baldness?'" is lacking something more than hair on the head, he's seriously lacking between the ears, and on the inside.

I think we can safely assume that his hair loss is not caused by his large brain pushing the hair out by the roots!  What an idiot!

I think his comment about "superior human being" was about his character - Captain America - and not him.
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

That was my point, why shouldn't a "superior human being" be bald?  Think about it.  A common convention in science fiction for advanced alien beings includes bald heads.  His comment is really rather out of touch with reality and "art."  And another thing, the article points out that he did a lot of work developing his body, obviously a gym situation.  I think it's almost a cliche in a gym that the guys with extensive physical development never let themselves looking balding, they shave it off or buzz it really tight.

Gotcha. After re-reading your comments I see where I missed your point. :)

Guys - come on! Don't start looking for offense where none was intended.
Captain America is an established fictional character that's been around for over 70 years and consistently shown as permanently young, with a physique enhanced by a "super soldier formula" and a full head of blond hair. All Chris Evans was trying to say is that balding is not the accepted image of the character that he is contractually obligated to portray.

Lighten up. We can be proud of our own sly choice without getting crazed about a remark that meant no harm or insult.

It wasn't an offense, worse actually--it was his casual acceptance and perpetuation of the totally false concept that there's something wrong with going bald.   :Xo!  Maybe it's time for the "70 year old character" to get with the "new" acceptance of bald.  There's no valid reason not to point out that he's out of step.
