I'm trying to grow a beard :)
« on: November 25, 2011, 03:21:57 AM »
Hey, fellows :)
Yes, I am trying to grow a beard. Peace of cake you'd say, ha?:D naw, it's a bit complicated :D
I'm doing it because I feel weird ..I don't know why :)
It gets even more complicated because I'm 20, and the beard isn't that "developed" (couldn't find the right word for that, sorry, hope you've got the point).
I've been growing it for 2 weeks (tomorrow it'll turn 2), and it's barely noticeable ...I'll keep it for a week more, and if it doesn't make a diffrence, I'mma shave it off, and I'll shave it for like a week daily, so it can grow faster :)
what ya'll think?

I was about 24 when I first grew my beard. I was on a temporary assignment in Alaska for the summer. It was a safe place to grow a beard. (It did not have to look good at any point along the way).  It took most of 6-8 weeks to really come in. Being blond did not help!

But I liked it. I've kept the beard most of the remainder of my life.  Some guys can grow a full beard in a few days at age 13. It looks great. If they want to be shaved, they have to do it several times a day! What a nuisance. The rest of us are blessed with slower growing beards.  Can get by with once a day or every other day shaving, but if you want the beard it takes longer to get going.

I found the 'itchy' part was over by about 2 weeks.  The rest was just letting it fill in.  My beard grows faster today in my late 50's

I had a dark beard at 15 yoa and got served in many taverns and was always recruited to buy beer for the older guys that were not legal. But having to shave every day later in life was a royal pain in the ass.

You either got it or you don't!  It takes me at the most 5 days to have it look like it's been there for a while.  I don't have any bare patches at all.  I didn't like it until I was about 28 when I started experimenting with growing it.  Now I love it.  Have fun with it.

This is 12 days into my new:Van Dyke

Never thought I would like it  - - but it is  almost as good as being   SLY BALD  - - - - and I think being bald and having facial hair compliment each other.

Don't shave the beard yet.  It is going to take you a while to discover what your beard is going to look like.  Just be patient.  The 30 days rule is not a bad one to use in deciding about a beard.

I cannot grow a decent beard. Just dealing with what genetics has given me. Good luck on your beard quest.

I usually let grow some beard when I have short buzzcuts. I think that is a good combo. But I haven´t enough hair on my face to let grow a full beard.

I am 41 and I have a summer beard when I try to grow it. Summer are here summer here. LOL

My whole family can grow beards but I have never been able to grow a full one. The stache and goat come in plenty thick enough.

The picture showing is me after four weeks of growth...Nice to know it doesn't take that long, but it will be coming off on Friday because of weekend drill. BTW, I'd like to see how far I can go once I retire which may be sooner rather than later...

May I recommend the beardboard for inspiration and counsel? There's been stories of people in mid twenties to even forties who have tried growing a beard for the first time. Some have been due to fear of trying it out. Others have been due to not realizing the facial hair characteristics keep developing years down the road. In my experience, although I was initially going for something else, I did not feel like I had a beard until at least three or four weeks into growth. I would say don't be deterred.
Once upon a time. The End.
