Day 1 of being bald!

Good morning, SBG! I'm Matt, a Corpsman in the United States Navy. I've had SHORT hair for over a decade now - 1/16th guard on the clippers every week was the routine for me. Lately, I've thought about shaving my head - a lot of guys in the military do that, so I'm exposed to it frequently.
Last night my roommate shaved his head, and I think that was the final push to get me to do it. This morning I used the clippers to get my hair as close to stubble as possible, then got in the shower and shaved. It went well. I used a Mach 3 with Barbosol shaving cream. Just like my face, it takes quite a few passes over the same area to get a clean shave. I was concerned about irritation on my scalp - my face has grown used to it and doesn't get irritated easily at all with multiple passes with the blades.
Luckily, I made it through with absolutely zero irritation on my head. I have a very clean, smooth shave with zero bleeding. Not a single nick! I used some Gillette aftershave to finish things off.
My first impression - it feels weird! I read some people mention a "numb-like" feeling. Makes complete sense now! I think a bald head fits me just fine - my hair was so short for so long anyway that going bald wasn't a huge leap. It took a while to shave for the first time with the longer stubble, but I'm sure tomorrow will be a breeze. I'm excited about the benefits...it's a pain in the rear keeping up with a clean neckline to meet military standards. Now I won't have that problem as there is no neckline.
I see no issues with me meeting the 30 day rule, and going far beyond. I'm going to break the news to my wife here shortly (over the phone - live apart due to training, but thankfully I can move her out here soon). I don't think she'll mind.

Welcome! Congrats on taking the last step. Your scalp will feel a little different for a week or two until it adjusts to being exposed and shaved regularly. After that, you won't notice any difference at all.
You'll also get the hang of shaving, so you won't worry about nicks or cuts. At this point, I shave purely by feel - no mirror needed. With regular shaving, your scalp will toughen up and be less sensitive to irritation. The key is to keep it moist as you shave.
Good luck telling your wife. I'm sure she'll like it!

Day 2 of being bald! Has anyone seen the Spongebob movie? King Neptune just popped into my head.
I shaved this morning - took a while. Even after just two days, I'm wondering if my Mach 3 can handle the job. My hair is thick (not in quantity, but each actual hair), and I found myself having to go over the same spot over and over and over and over again. Zero irritation, but it just took a while to complete the shave.
I also need to consider some other shaving gel/cream to see what can soften my hair up adequately. I have some Edge gel that I can try out tomorrow morning.
