Hello to everyone:
Just wanted to introduce myself. I have been a member for awhile and made a few posts, here and there. Real brief, Just turned 40 and have been wearing a piece since 22. Long story short, I am tired of it, for all of the reasons I have read here. Annoying, expense and a sense of loss of freedom.
Its funny when I lost it so young, I was actually okay with it and started shaving my head right away. But then came the constant comments, insults and pressure, to do something. And even then I knew after doing this I would never be free. 20+ years later, feel the same way. Don't get me wrong I have had a pretty good life. Beautiful wife, good job, involved in a ton of activities. But about the last 5 years, I feel wearing this is robbing me of spirit and FREEDOM.
In an attempt to take it off, I have talked to everyone, family, friends, shrinks, but nothing has given me the courage to do, what I think would be a positive life changing experience. But the fear of the unknown is tuff. I don't have to tell you guys that losing your hair can be quite a traumatic experience.
So I turn to you guys for help and guidance. God knows I am a strong man, but this decision is beating me. Also have not figured out how to post pics yet-so sorry. HIKER48

There will come a day, tomorrow, next week, next month, but it will come when your instinct to be free cannot be denied. People know you're "wearing" and you know that too. People know you're a bald guy. Look around, there are lots of us--a whole lot of us. The "you" that is important, that your friends and associates value and love, isn't "wearing"! That dead animal is just that a dead piece of animal protein glued to your scalp--and many guys who've been there admit that it even stinks!
Your post indicates to this bald brother that you're ready. Go to the Wal-Mart, buy some clippers--about $10-14 and take the guard off, run it over your scalp until all the live and dead hair is gone. Take a nice relaxing hot shower and shampoo the stubble well. Get some shaving gel, a new blade--Fusion is easy to handle or Schick Hydro 5--then take your time, run the razor right down the middle of your head front to back then finish up. You'll feel free, unbelievably free. Until you do it, the urge to do it will just be there--waiting. Yield, be free, be happy.

You seem drawn to shaving from a deep place. Like you know intuitively this is the best move for you to make. All that extra stuff, all that hesitation, that's coming from somewhere else. Do what feels right deep down. And you know what? All that hesitation really isn't necessary anymore. 18 years ago, maybe. Right now, the tide is turning on male pattern baldness. More and more people rock the shaved look and the stigma is gone. If you need any further indication of this, look through the ranks of actors, athletes and popular musicians. But even if it was 18 years ago, I would still say do it. Because at the end of the day, that deep down feeling matters more than anything else.

Hey Hiker,
Saint C is a wise man and tellin you like it is. So are the other guys who have written here in support.
You want to shave the dome and you will never know the freedom that doing so brings until you do the deed.
Go for it, man.

Get some aspirin ready now. Afterwards, you
will
be smacking yourself in your forehead wondering why you waited so long. The headache from the smacking will be well worth it!
