You can pick up a paper every day and read about a political leader that has abused a woman or an intern, a teacher that has abused a student, police officers, military officers and the list goes on. It always seem to come from people in powerful positions intimidating and taking advantage of the marginalized and powerless. And isn't it ironic that the friends and associates of the abuser will circle the wagons in defense even when the evidence is clear...?

  I saw video today of Penn State students outside Paternos home yelling encouragement to this fool. One student said  ''this shouldn't happen to our program '' we believe in Joe Paterno ''.  Penn States football program is in the toilet where it belongs and these students need to realize just how serious this crime is.

The real problem with that clip on the tube was that Paterno was outside egging them on--does he still not get it?

I didn't watch any clip on this matter, as it completely disgusts me, as I'm certain it does for the majority of society.
All accounts are that Paterno did "what he was required" from a legal standpoint (Saint can comment on that more than I can). That being said, Paterno's conscious should have driven him to serve (in no particular order) the victims, the university, his co-workers, his family, and his legacy, in a more thorough and ethical manner. Bottom line, he clearly could have, and should have, done more. (Hey Saint, from a legal standpoint, can he be held accountable of aiding and abetting? If so, what ramifications are there?).

Bottom line, as the father of two great kids that mean the world to me, this whole sad story sickens me.

I haven't any experience in criminal law since law school and the bar exam so I can't talk about the fine points.  But, and here it's the talking heads on TV who have provided some information for what it's worth, there were some references to "sworn tesitimony" so if he did testify under oath on this matter, he could have issues if he wasn't telling the truth or if he hampered the investigation by less than the truth.  I believe I heard the news saying this could now affect the President of the University and that the number of victims is in the neighborhood of 20.  Funny in a way, I remember watching the Penn Alabama game and they showed him in the box--apparently he was there for personal safety since being hit on the sidelines.  I told my wife, "That guy really needs to step down, he's past his prime."  Little did we know this has been going on since 2002!

Looks like the University did for Paterno what he should have done himself. Resign at the end of the season indeed. They fired him and the University President last night.

I referred to the DA at the beginning of this thread having no idea that he has been declared dead. I wonder who killed him and where they hid the body.....

Seriously, after reading these 2 articles and listening to this Madden guy I'm not sure that Al Capone had anything at all on these guys.

Gawd Amighty, the more I read about this the more horrifying it promises to become. From what I've been reading get ready for a shocker about all this, possibly by the weekend.

I actually heard Madden live on ESPN radio Thursday evening when he broke this rumor. I have no doubt that the gasp I let out was audible for miles around.

A lot of people ar going to be spending a lot of time in jail over this. Last night I was speaking to a Friend of mine that is a Penn State grad. He's furios that these guys gat away with this. He also told me that Coach McQreary is a dumb ass that should never have been there in the first place.

I find him to be more culpable than anyone in this mess, aside from Sandusky himself.  To think that he caught him in the act and did nothing to stop it is just beyond my comprehension.

I can't imagine witnessing something so flagrantly wrong and doing nothing to stop it then and there.  This whole episode is going to consume a lot of people's lives because right now many of them are into the rationalization / justification of why they didn't act.  Only when they realize how much worse they made it by not acting will the whole situation begin to be repaired.  Judging by the actions so far, that time is still far off.

I'm reminded of the saying: to whom much is given, much is expected.  In this case, much was given to the Penn State coaching staff and administration, much was expected in return, but it's clear they didn't understand that what was expected was that they would protect the innocent.

It's hard for me to create a rank in responsibility--but for so many people to have had the opportunity to end this monster's reign of terror and for each and every one to fail to live up to the minimum standard of "Love thy neighbor as thyself" simply is appalling.  And each apparently for selfish reasons, McQreary for his job, Paterno for his reputation and legacy, and on and on.  Now everyday they and the monster will look in the mirror and have to say, "I could have done something and failed to do so."   I wouldn't be surprized if there is one or more suicides in the story before it's run its course.
