Twitter
« on: October 13, 2011, 11:48:24 AM »
Guys, if any of you have some time, could you briefly explain what twitter is? I've read up on it but I still don't get it.

I just signed up for a twitter account, @ukgsguk, but I've just spent half an hour trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do with it. Do I just 'like' things or whatever it's called? And what does following mean? And finally, what is the difference between @ and #

I'm really annoyed with myself because I should understand what it's all about but it's just not sinking in. I vaguely understand (and deeply dislike) Facebook but I think I'd like twitter if I could just figure out wtf it actually is :o

I'm using my iPad right now and maybe the twitter app is confusing me even more :(

I don't get it at all :( it just looks like an awful lot of people talking about an awful lot of crap. I thought it would be quite interesting :(

Twitter is a microblog/social network that's limited to 140 characters of text.

I find Facebook and Twitter very helpful.  My band posts all our tour dates and things like CD releases (shameless plug: new album being released Nov. 4th!  PM for details).  Facebook is how most of our followers are aware of shows in their area.  There are also a few pages on Facebook that allow musicians to network so we can find people to sit in or substitute on gigs.

That's very true...I go to FB to check out music venues, entertainment and other events.  O0

With it you can be informed in real time when a friend feels like munching on a candy bar.

Was going to make a comment regarding munching, but thought better of it  :D

Twitter can be fun and useful, as long as you don't mind the occasional (or more than occasional) parade of inanities - though that can be mindlessly entertaining as well  ;)

Close...though you don't have to leave the application active. You can sign out and come back later and the tweets of anyone you follow will be listed there.....newest to oldest.

Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.
