30 days down, rest of my life to go!
« on: October 09, 2011, 01:55:40 PM »
Today marks the four week (30 day)  aniversery of ditching the hairpeice and shaving down. I will admit i have not gone full sly. I have been using the whall clippers ever other day with no guard. I think this is short enough for me now,  i plan to try sly soon.

Going through this process was very diferent than i expected. At times I felt great about my desision other times i questioned myself for doing this. I quickly got used to my new look and  enjoyed looking at it in the mirror often. Sometimes I was confident to go out and see friends, family, and coworkers other times not so much. The Reactions i recieved from people were not what i expected. the people i thought would make comments never did and the ones i thought would not, did. For the most part i believe i had one of the beter hairpecies available. I have told a few people about the hairpeice and they told me i honestly had the fooled. One bald friend insisted i grow my hair  out to prove i had mpb. Other people have asked if i plan on growing it back over the winter months.

in the past 30 days i have seen 90% of the people i know. it is a relief to have that out of the way. Now that everone has seen the new me, they are getting used to my shaved head.  That makes it much easier to except my new look.

Being able to wash my head every day is the best part of this so far. For years i have delt with glue stuck to my head.  After a fresh glue and haircut it did look good, But there was the faint chemical smell from the glue.  After a week it looked good and smell went away. By the time the end of week two  and week three it started to get sticky from my sweet mixing with the glue and there definitly was a foul smell.  Because it was glued down there was nothing i could do about it. Week 4 time to get rebonded.  After work i would go in they would remove the peice, scrap off all the sweat /head oil soaked glue wash my head and rebond. Then the cycle restared. Its pretty gross only washing your head every 3 weeks.

I feel I have made the right desion. i think  30 days is just the minimum amount of time to get used to this whole new lifestyle. It is still so new to me. I cant wait to get to the point when i dont think about it anymore. As of now my hair is on my mind a lot. Not in a bad way, i'm always thinking about it.

You're right on track-and looking good.  Weren't you the guy waiting until November?  Well you've obviously moved on from the tyranny of HC--that in and of itself is amazing work.  The rest is downhill and just gets better.  You're just a hot shower and new blade from total sly--and when you do it, tomorrow morning, next week or next month is at your comfort.  But when you do, and you can take this to the bank, it only gets better.

Congrats on completing 30 days!! You'll eventually get to where you don't think about it in the way you think about it today.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

I did have a plan to wait till November to do the deed. I was going to do it just before a trip to the bahamas i have planed. Last month i was looking at my appointment to get rebonded before the trip, i had three more. I thought about paying three more sessions and all the hassel that goes with it. reading all the posts on the SBG site saying just do it! finaly got to me. I got in the car went out and bought the supplies. When I got home i took the peice off showered and shaved down,  All within a couple hour time frame.  I am happy i did it last month now when i go on vacation in november it will not interfere with the trip. I am thinking about trying sly that week.

Well congratulations on completing the first 30 days. Even if you aren't completely shaved you are still sly.

I did not realize how much work it takes to maintain a hair system, congratulations on the decision to get rid of it.

Congratulations!  It would be fun to see the before picture.  Great decision to get it all over with before the vacation so you don't have to think about it.  You look great now and I'm glad to hear how good you feel.

looks great on you. I had kind of the same reactions, but now I'm used with it, and I'm way more confidence when I go out. I feel like this is the best decision ever.

Gratz!

I've been thinking about those Wahl's Balding Clippers, too... I really can't use a razor because it causes too much irritation (I'm African American, so get those ugly razor bumps/whiteheads).
