PigPen's "goal"
« on: April 25, 2007, 06:00:12 PM »
I'm not really going to measure my progress by weight loss. For two reasons, our scale is broken and I really don't care about buying a new one. Also, I think if you're sittin there waitin for the pounds to drop off and they don't then you'll get discouraged.

I started out this morning with very simple stuff. We used to have a home gym, but ran out of room. My knees don't handle running very well anymore and my bike has flat tires. (I don't like riding in the early morning either)

I started with 60 jumping jacks this morning to get the heart rate up. Then I did about 20 sit-ups (for the spare tire). Then I did some push-ups three different ways; incline, decline, and regular old push-ups. (Push-ups can be a challenge as well due to right wrist being fused and not bending back all the way. I manage though.) If anyone has some other ideas for easy stuff to do at the house or suggestions I'm all ears!

One old trick we used to do Pigpen was what we called mountain climbers. Push up position but driving one leg up to the chest followed by the other in a running motion.  Get a good cardio with that and work legs in as well  And how about leg raises for the lower abs

Pigpen,

Get some push up bars (they have them at wal mart) or some dumbbells.  They allow you to do pushups with your wrists straight, instead of wrists bent and palms flat on the floor.  Regular pushups make my wrists hurt so I use dumbbells.

Speaking of dumbbells, when I got back into lifting, I started out with the pair of 25 pounders, and used a foot stool for my bench.  You can make progress without much equipment.  Slide the DBs under the couch when you're not using them.

I'll have to try that stuff. Just to give you an idea how long it's been, I'm sore this morning and decided to skip the workout at all. lol

Thanks for the ideas fellas.

I suggest that you sit in the recliner, give a long hard pull on the lever that raises the foot part and wait until all this blows over.  Find something equally taxing for your left arm and you have it made.

I echo what Medic says.  You can also do squats and leg lunches with 20 pound dumbells.
