I've used eBay for years, mostly as a buyer.  My Feedback score is 498, however that's not representative of all the items I've bought because the 'old' system didn't allow the same seller's feedback to count in your total (for multiple buys) and some sellers never post feedback at all.

442 --  Just sold some 'stuff' (collectibles) so probably will go a bit higher.  It's a lot of work to get things ready for eBay, and list it.  Then the hassle of packing, shipping, etc.  But I have a ton of stuff I need to get rid of, and eBay is a good outlet to do that.  I buy items for my business that are substantially less  costly on eBay than from one of my regular suppliers,  Than allows my little company to pass the savings on when I need to, and have a larger margin when I don't.  Makes up for the slim margins that come with being in business.    Since I'm not in hide mode,  you eBayers can check me out   -- cvasara
Same as here - Not very creative, I'm afraid.

eBay is great but its a pain in the ass to sell on, IMO. Firstly, its horribly expensive to sell on eBay. The final value fees are beyond a joke, at least here. I never received neutral or negative feedback, but the threat of it often made me bend so far backwards for people that I lost money time and time again, just to avoid bad feedback. Then as you say, all the packing and shipping and answering questions etc...

Well, I have received one negative a couple years ago,  and the USPS showed that package in the buyers home post office.  I had already given a high praise feedback, and the other guy gave me the only negative I have ever received.
So I blocked him from ever bidding on my stuff ever again, (He is the only one).
and I made a rule  --   NEVER BUT NEVER leave feed back first.  NOT EVER.
And when someone messages me when I am the buyer and says "I'll leave feedback when you do"  My response is, " You are the seller, the only issue would be, did you get paid quickly? and if so, that is the only issue you should have.  If I get the goods in a timely manner, in the condition that is listed, and not crushed, then I leave positive feed back.
Simple and easy.
Care to buy something ? ?

The thing is though, the buyers only responsibility ISNT just to pay on time.

What happens if the seller leaves feedback first, and then the buyer files a chargeback with their credit card company? So they might well pay you quickly, but then that doesnt amount to a hill of beans if after they received the item, they either claim it didnt arrive, or worse, they call their credit card company and have the funds reversed. However, in this day and age, a seller cant leave negative or neutral feedback for a buyer anyway, so the whole feedback system is a little pointless these days IMO

Agreed on the buyer leaving feedback thingy, but still, as the seller or buyer,  NEVER GO FIRST.    If I don't receive feedback, I couldn't care less.  I made a transaction, and it was good, as it usually is on eBay, so if I don't get it first, I really don't give a S _ _ _.   I sold it, I'm happy that it's gone,  I bought it, I'm glad I have it.  What do I care about  a feedback score?

I agree with you. When I sell something, its for the $$, not for the feedback. Plus, nowadays, with eBay's detailed seller ratings programme, its better for a seller when the buyer DOESNT leave feedback.
